Ssembabule district woman Member of Parliament (MP) Mary Begumisa survived slaps from Health Junior Minister Anifa Kawooya who accused her of influencing her husband Wilberforce Begumisa to contest against her in Mawogola West.
The Minister was very bitter after seeing Begumisa and her husband at a political rally she organized at Lwebitakuli Seed School playground and she furiously asked her who invited her and her husband at her function.
“Who brought you here, why are you provoking me. I organized this rally to mobilize support for president Museveni not you, I can even slap you,” Minister Kawooya said as she tried to send a slap at Begumisa’s face.
Begumisa and the husband were given chairs to sit on but their supporters remained standing and refused to enter in the tents where Kayoowa’s supporters were seated.
Begumisa, her husband and their supporters were first denied access to the ground by security led by police who insisted that they were not invited.
It was not until junior minister in charge of cooperative and microfinance Haruna Kasolo pleaded on their behalf that they were allowed in.
Kasolo explained that the function was organized for all National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters.
After entering, Kawooya and her supporters were very bitter as Kasolo and Energy senior Minister Dr Ruth Nakabirwa kept questioning why Begumisa’s husband was standing against Kawooya yet being a husband to the district women legislator made him a very strong person in the area.
Lwemiyaga legislator Theodore Ssekikubo praised Kawooya for being a hardworking person noting that it is the reason he is working with her to secure Museveni’s victory come 2026 presidential elections.
