President Museveni has directed his son who is also the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and all top government officials with immediate effect to stop making any comments on the ongoing US/Israel War with Iran.

On 28 February, 2026 the US and Israel launched a series of aerial attacks across Iran, killing the Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior regime officials.

The conflict comes after months of US military build-up in the region and repeated failed negotiations between the US and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear programme. President Donald Trump said the “massive and ongoing military operation” was launched now because Iran had “rejected every opportunity to renounce their nuclear ambitions.”

US-Israeli bombing raids and missile strikes targeted cities and military installations across Iran, killing more than 750 people.

In response, Iran launched missiles and drones at US allies across the Gulf, hitting US military locations, oil and gas installations, and civilian areas in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Jordan, Cyprus and Iraq.

Hostilities quickly spread throughout the region, with dozens killed in Lebanon by Israeli raids following rocket fire from the Iran-aligned Hezbollah militia.

Being the chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), President Museveni’s voice was highly awaited on the matter but highly placed State House sources told this website that the big man told cabinet this week that the ongoing war is very sensitive and the country should handle it with a lot of care.

“The president was very serious when commenting on the matter, he directed all top government officials not to comment on it. I was told that the directive was first issued to military commanders. Gen Muhoozi was also stopped from discussing the matter on social media even Charles Rwomushana has been asking him to do so as Gen David Sejusa is doing on his X handle,” a source said.

Donald Trump the president of the United States said that he expects the war to take a period of more than four weeks and advised Iranian army to put down their weapons and surrender.

State House sources said that the president is scared that the war might create enemies for him as a person and Uganda at large especially at a time when the East and Central African region is under threat of insecurity.

Ugandan government has been receiving negative criticism over mistreatment of political opposition groups with the United States and some European countries declining to congratulate President Museveni on his 2026 presidential victory.

The development comes at a time when United States has just sanctioned Rwanda military and top army commanders on allegations of facilitating and supporting wars against president Felix Tshisekedi’s government in Democratic Republic of Congo.

This reporter contacted three senior ministers and they all declined to comment on the matter and instead referred us to the President.

It should be remembered that when Uganda had a misunderstanding with President Paul Kagame’s government in Rwanda, Museveni also directed his ministers and government officials not to comment on the matter until Gen Muhoozi saved the situation by sealing a peace deal which resulted into opening of the Gatuna border which was closed during the conflict.
