This investigative website can exclusively report that weeks to the presidential and parliamentary elections, a number of National Unity Platform (NUP) top leaders processed passports and visas for their immediate family members and a number of them were smuggled out of the country.

Highly placed sources at NUP headquarters at Makerere Kavule revealed to Ono Bwino online that their contacts in security agencies tipped them that there was a clandestine plan to arrest a number of them hours to the polling date and after the polling date.

“It was not a coincident that Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu the party principal) survived last week’s security operation. For weeks, he has been following the preparation of that security operation, the officers in security wanted to arrest him the way American commandos arrested Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores at a residence in Caracas. Security wanted to prove to the world that they have the capacity to pick any person they have interest in like the Americans but we were ahead of them, that’s why Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba (Chief of Defence Forces) is very bitter on X with Bobi Wine’s hiding tactics,” a highly placed source said.

He added that Bobi Wine has been sharing the classified intelligence information with his inner circles and it is the reason why his Personal Assistant Sharif Najja survived but his deputies including Dr. Lina Zedriga and Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba were arrested and up to now their whereabouts are not known by friends and relatives.

He added that defeated Butambala county legislator Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi who is also the NUP deputy president in charge of Buganda was advised to run into hiding after the incident at his home in Butambala which resulted into more than seven people being killed but he refused insisting that there is nothing he is hiding from.

He explained that Muwanga declined to take the advice because he was aware that he was already on security radar and everything was going to be done to make sure he is arrested thus trying to run out of the country will prove that he has a case to answer.

He was later arrested from his Kira home on Thursday morning and detain at Kira Police station on charges related to terrorism.

By the time of publishing this story, Muwanga Kivumbi had been arraigned before Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with terrorism under the Anti-Terrorism Act and remanded.

He is scheduled to return to court on February 3, 2026.

Sources said that acting on this intelligence a section of NUP leaders decided to smuggle their family members out of the country which in turn led to security placing a roadblock at Kitubulu along Entebbe Road which is the only route to the international airport.

Each and every car is searched and individuals inside ordered to produce their detailed documentations according to sources.

Ono Bwino has established that many of the said leaders are hiding their family members in countries like South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia.

There are also elites working in government and private corporate entities who before the elections hid their people in those countries scared that they can be injured after fears arose days to the elections that it might turn violent.

President Museveni said that he received intelligence information that Bobi Wine together with his foreign masters were planning to create unrest in Uganda and force his government out of power.

Museveni vowed that whatever Bobi Wine and his people are planning will not happen in Uganda. Museveni warned that every enemy will be defeated because Uganda is a country for martyrs.

The development comes at a time when Bobi Wine’s Chief bodyguard Godfrey Onzima (Tower), his Personal Assistant Ashraf Najja reportedly went into hiding in exile while other party leaders like Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro the party spokesperson, Doreen Kaija, Sauda Madada, Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe and others are rotting in prison on charges related to politics.

It is not clear weather Bobi Wine is still in the country or not but he assured Gen Muhoozi who directed him with immediate effect to report himself to the nearby police station.
