The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership has praised the maturity that the Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among and the Works senior minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala exhibited as the country mourned the death of Hallen Nakimuli the Kalangala district Woman Member of Parliament

Gorreth Namugga the Mawogola South MP revealed that parliament leadership learnt from the mistakes made when the country was mourning for the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya the former Kawempe North legislator which created controversies and fights over the deceased’s body.

“I thank the leadership of parliament for acting maturely and giving my sister Nakimuli a dignified sendoff. Our speaker Among disregarded the advice from people like minister Haruna Kasolo on how to deal with Nakimuli’s sendoff and whatever decision she made, she first consulted NUP leadership,” Namugga said.

She noted that people like minister Kasolo were trying to prove a point that NUP is a party full of violent people and with the help of Kalangala district Resident District Commissioner (RDC) tried to provoke them through their demeaning statements but they stayed calm so that they give their fellow leader a dignified sendoff.

While at parliament, Minister Kasolo asked NUP leadership not put up a scene which will scare other people from other political parties from attending Nakimuli’s burial as they have been doing.

Namugga insisted that such statements from Kasolo was a way of trying to provoking them.

The speaker of parliament confirmed that her together with the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi had interacted with the doctor who led a team at Alexandra Medical Center who performed the unsuccessful operation on the deceased over the weekend.

Even though the minister in charge of Information and National Guidance who is also a medical doctor told parliament that medical experts are still compering the postmortem reports made on Nakimuli’s body to establish the cause of her death, Among boasted that as parliament, they have already received the postmortem and they know what killed their colleague.

She claimed that the postmortem report in her possession confirmed that the deceased died in the theatre room even though some NUP leaders insist that they have not yet seen the postmortem report.

Namugga also praised Gen Katumba noting that even though he is in government and the deceased has been in opposition, he directed that enough transport be put in place to help people from different islands that form Kalangala district to travel to the district headquarters for free to participate and observe the district council special sitting in honour of the deceased.

Gen Katumba commended Nakimuli’s leadership style noting that even though she has been in opposition, she has been serving all the people in the district without discriminating them.

President Museveni also mourned Nakimuli’s death and he contributed Shs20m to support the family in the difficulty situation they are going through.

Other National Resistance Movement (NRM) members eulogized her.
