Kampala senior minister Hajat Minsa Kabanda has warned city traders affected by October 2025 Nakivubo drainage channel floods that if they don’t stop storming her home, they will be charged with offences related to treason and terrorism.

On Tuesday morning, a section of aggrieved traders led by the Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA) leadership stormed minister Kabanda’s Kitebi home demanding answers on why they have not received the money President Museveni promised them.

Teargas and other equipment were used by police and army to disperse the crowds who had gathered at the minister’s gate demanding that she gives them an explanation why up to now they have not yet received their money.

“Traders are tired of excuses; they want government officials to give them a date when they will receive their money because Prime minister Robina Nabbanja assured them that their money is ready. They lost everything and urgently need money to revamp their businesses. Even though I’m not supporting them on demonstrating and rioting against government officials,” John Kabanda FUTA president said.

In response, minister Kabanda denied having any hand in stopping them from receiving their money. She assured them that they will receive the funds when they are ready.

“Threatening me and other government officials will not help them get their money. They should wait because it was the head of State who ordered the money to be given to them and he cannot lie. That is why he is closely monitoring whatever is going on. The traders should know that continuing with those demonstrations and riots will cause them problems because the President banned those actions and directed that anyone found doing so will be charged with terrorism or treason,” minister Kabanda said.

She added that all concerned government agencies including the Office of the Prime Minister, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Internal Security Organization (ISO) verified all those who are supposed to receive the money and they will get it when its ready.

The traders accused city businessman Hamis Kiggundu the proprietor of Ham Enterprises of causing the floods that cost them billions of moneys because of his action of building on top of Nakivubo drainage channel blocking the running of the water.

Incarcerated former Kampala city Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago accused National Unity Platform (NUP) former speaker, who is currently the Makindye West Member of Parliament and her council of conniving with Kiggundu and President Museveni to pave way for the building atop the drainage channel.
