Early this week, incarcerated opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye received a delegation of leaders from his political party the People’s Front for Transition (PFF) at Luzira prison where he was briefed about the status of the political environment in the country.

However, to their shock, according to veteran journalist Peter Kibazo, Dr Besigye was more vast with the political environment and what is going on currently in the country to the extent that after analysing for them the current political environment, he assured them that even if all the opposition leaders join President Museveni as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) deputy president in charge of Buganda and also Mawokota South outgoing legislator and others did recently, Ugandans will continue oppossing Museveni’s government until they will achieve their goal of overthrowing it.

“They found the man still in high spirit on fighting for regime change, he told them that Nsibambi and others joining Museveni will not save the situation, adding that very soon Ugandans will explode against the regime,” Kibazo said.

He was supported by Haruna Kanabi a veteran political journalist who said that Ugandans have been watching opposition leaders joining Museveni government but they keep on supporting them until the right person will present themselves and energise their struggle.

He laughed at president Museveni who wrote that in Uganda there is no opposition, advising him not to waste his time and energy recruiting top opposition leaders like Nsibambi, Latif Ssebaggala, Faruk Ssebaggala, Norbert Mao and others because the people who are opposing his government are on ground and don’t have any positions in the leadership of opposition in the country.

The development comes at a time when a video recording is circulating on social media where Dr Besigye equated Nsibambi to Kikonyogo Kanonya, a fighter who abandoned them in the NRA’s 1981-armed struggle and joined Dr Milton Obote’s government who used him to mobilise other fighters to surrender.

Fred Mukasa Mbidde the Democratic Party (DP) national vice president said that the reason why Besigye stepped down as FDC president and even shifted from Najjanankumbi where the party headquarters are located to Katonga road in Nakasero was he established that Museveni had infiltrated his party and people were getting money to frustrate the political struggle against Museveni government.

After the 2021 general elections, Besigye shocked the country when he tabled evidence showing how the FDC leadership in Najjanankumbi received billions of funds from Museveni to facilitate campaigns for their 2021 party presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat.

Nsibambi was among those who badly attacked Besigye and denied getting funds from Museveni. However. He recently confirmed that he has been secretly meeting Museveni until he decided to make their meetings open to the public.

He noted that he decided to dialogue with Museveni after establishing that the current opposition cannot defeat him and also save thousands of opposition youths who are rotting in prison.

PFF’s president and also outgoing Kampala city Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago insists that what Nsibambi and his friends are doing is diversionary and weakening the resolve of Ugandans who are fighting Museveni’s government through making juicy deals.
