The supreme leader of the Tabliq Muslim community in Uganda Amir Umar Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga has confirmed the suspension of three senior Jamuyat Adda-wa Assalafiyah Sheikhs.

Exclusively speaking to Ono Bwino, Sheikh Kamoga declined to elaborate why Sheikh Hassan Kaluuma, Sheikh Fahad Kalungi and Sheikh Abubaker Majwala were suspended insisting that the issue is not for public discussion because it will be internally resolved amicably.

According to a statement issued by Sheikh Twaha Kakande the Deputy Director of Dawa Muslim sect, the Sheikhs were suspended for a period of six months from 16th of March 2026 and are not allowed to preach in any of the community mosques.

“The suspended sheikhs are banned from teaching, leading juma prayers, Eid prayers and taking part in any other activities in all mosques under the Jumuyiyyat Dawa Assalafiya,” the statement reads in part.

Ono Bwino has established that the said sheikhs are also under investigations on the allegations of creating divisionism in the Muslim sect because of their misunderstanding of the interpretation of the holy book of Quran.

They are also accused of making public verbal exchanges which undermine the sect leadership and integrity.

However, the elders told this website that the fresh infighting is threatening the sect’s unity and taking Muslims back to the troubles they had between 2014-2020

During the said period, senior tabliq Sheikhs who included Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya, Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga, Sheikh Muhammad Kiggundu and others were gunned down which resulted into the arrest and conviction of Sheikh Kamoga, the supreme leader and other senior sheikhs including Sheikh Kalungi and others.

However, Court of Appeal reversed the decision of the Crimes War Division of the High Court which convicted the said sheikhs and exonerated them but senior Sheikhs like Sheikh Muhammod Kibate, Sheikh Nagib Sonko didn’t return to the sect headquarters at Nakasero mosque because of the fights which resulted into death of their comrades.

When contacted, all the suspended sheikhs declined to comment on the matter insisting that they are using the internal mechanisms to solve their issues amicably.
