Charismatic retired New Vision editor John Kakande has narrated why his former boss president is resurrecting talk that in the 2021 general elections in Buganda, National Unity Platform (NUP) stole his votes in Buganda insisting that it is the reason why he was badly defeated in the central region of the country.

When he was addressing journalist at his Kisozi country home, Museveni claimed that the opposition leading political party printed more than two million fake votes from Nkrumah Road and imported others from Dubai but didn’t explain how the votes were smuggled into the electoral commission’s boxes to be counted.

“So, what has been happening now, not only last year, for a long time, the opposition in Kampala here have been ballot stuffing. In 2021, they went further and printed their own fake ballot papers at Nkurumah Road,” Museveni said.

He boasted that it was the reason why he insisted that Biometric Voter Verification machines should be used during the 2026 general elections. Museveni divulged that some people were telling him that it is going to be costly and his voters in the villages will not be allowed to vote because their thumbs may not be detected by the machine because they use hoes when are digging which destroys their thumbprints.

Museveni said that if their thumbs cannot be detected by the machine, then they should use their eyes since  the machine can detect both the eyes and the thumb.

He asked his supporters in Buganda especially in Kasanda district not to blame themselves for their defeat in the last election insisting that they were cheated.

However, Kakande a political scholar said that what Museveni is doing is to prepare the ground not to accept defeat that is why he has started early telling people that his votes are going to be stolen as he did in the 1980 elections.

“Inside his mind, he understands that he has nothing he can do to change people’s mind to vote for him. The only option now is to threaten them that he has guns and even if they don’t vote for him, he will use the gun to silence them,” Kakande said.

He insisted that Museveni is very scared a youthful opposition of people like Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) can snatch power away from him even though, Kakande said, Bobi Wine is not the right person Museveni wishes to replace him.

Kakande divulged that this is the reason why candidate Museveni is doing whatever is in his capacity to frustrate Bobi Wine so that he does now reach the masses to spread his message.

“But the president should be told that the situation that the country is in can be equated to that of a Friesian cow on heat. During that time, cow only wants a bull. The President is looking at Bobi Wine as a Karamojong bull and he doesn’t want him to mount a Friesian cow that is why he is fighting to place all roadblocks in his way to make sure that he doesn’t meet the Friesian cow,” Kakande said.

He however said that the more the president fights the more he exposes himself that is why he should not be surprised when people start comparing him to dictators like president Idi Amin who was very sure that with the help of the gun, it was only death that could kick him out of power.

Kakande gave the warning when he was hosted by Peter KIbazo on Radio Simba’s Gasimbagane ne bannamawulire, a political talk show.

His argument was supported by fellow veteran journalist Haruna Kanabi who wondered how Museveni, the man he knows of not being scared by arguments and debate could reach the extent of threatening people that soldiers will kill them because of Bobi Wine’s protest vote.

Ahmed Kateregga Musaazi another veteran journalist and currently the Jinja city Resident City Commissioner assured the entire country that Bobi Wine a Karamojong bull will not take power and the writing is on the wall that his boss is winning the election with more than 70%.
