Godfrey Aine Kaguta the young brother to President Museveni has responded to the decision made by Sam Kahamba Kutesa the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and father-in-law of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba of not campaigning for any National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate in Mawogola apart from President Museveni.
Sodo disclosed that as a member of NRM, Kutesa is supposed to campaign for his candidature where he is vying to be the Mawogola North Member of Parliament.
However, Sodo said because of the fragile state of Kutesa’s health, it might be the reason why he decided not to participate in the ongoing political campaigns.
Early this year, Kutesa built a multibillion church in Mawogola to thank God for giving him a second chance by saving him from being killed by the deadly cancer disease.
However, in November 2025, he declared that he is physically fit and ready to campaign for President Museveni so that he wins in Mawogola and evict opposition from the area especially legislator Gorreth Namugga who is the Mawogola South legislator.
Sodo confirmed that it is true even Kutesa and her daughter who is the incumbent MP Shartsi Musherure Kutesa are yet to start campaigning for him. He divulged that he thinks that they will maybe start when President Museveni visits their area in the coming weeks.
“She cannot refuse to campaign for me because she stepped down for me and I went through unopposed as NRM candidate. I did the same for her in 2020 after we agreed that she was going to do the same in 2025,” Sodo said.
He praised Musherure for performing well in her one term of five years as MP compared to her father Kutesa who spent more than 20 years.
He defended himself on the allegation of being greedy for political position yet his elder brothers Gen Museveni and his younger brother Gen Salim Saleh and their son Gen Muhoozi are the ones running the country.
Sodo disclosed that he wants to use the position as MP to change the life of people in Mawogola.
He explained that entering a government office with a title of being an MP is very powerful than entering it lobbying for something as Museveni’s brother.
“We also struggle like other Ugandans for a living, imagine if I had that huge amount of money, I wouldn’t have spent four years without finishing my home house,” Sodo claimed.
Even though Sodo is boasting of having a landslide win, political observers insist that Kutesa is still a political Kingpin in Mawogola and Ssembabule and not supporting him is likely to affect him specially at the time when his family is allegedly divided on supporting him.
Sources said that a section of family members were not happy with the decision of forcing Musherure out of the race in favour of Sodo and it might be the reason why Kutesa is coy on supporting him.
Sources said that Musherure was ready to defend her position but Museveni summoned a family meeting and guided her to stand down in favour of Kaguta because of the agreement they reached upon in the 2020 when Kaguta agreed to stand down for Musherure to avoid bloodshed in the area as it was in 2020 before his intervention.
Sources said that among those family members who were not happy with the move of forcing Musherure out of the race were her father, her twin sister Charlotte Nankunda Kutesa wife to Gen Muhoozi, First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi.
Sources claim as an alternative, Kampala based lawyer Jet Tumwebaze was picked and fronted to contest against Kaguta and after nomination, he started with challenging Kaguta’s nomination insisting that he doesn’t have the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
This is not the first time Museveni has faced challenges especially concerning politics, on several occasions, Museveni has been stopping his family members from competing in elective politics.
It should be remembered that even though his wife who also doubles as the Minister for Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museveni contested as a Member of Parliament in Ntungamo district, he managed to stop Aine in 2020 and Shedruck Nzeire Kaguta in 2025 from contesting for a top executive position in the just concluded NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections.
