The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) vice national chairperson in charge of western Uganda Balaam Barugahare has confirmed that troubled former Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among had presidential ambition.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the PLU national chairperson confirmed the launch of the operation ‘Maliza Ufisadi’ which is targeting corrupt government officials noting that it was authorised by his father who is also the Commander-in-Chief President Museveni.
The operation is led by Dr Tom Magambo Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with support from other government investigation agencies and organizations.
The investigation teams started with searching and collecting all necessary exhibits from Speaker Among’s multibillion residents in Kampala, Wakiso and other parts of the country.

Among’s blue-eyed girl and also the controversial Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament Justine Nameere confirmed that President Museveni personally told him that he authorized the operation against the former speaker after she declined to accept the corruption allegations placed on her by several intelligence reports.
Nameere claimed that deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa acknowledged the corruption claims placed on him and he apologized to the big man but Among put up a fight which angered the President and he promised to send her his auditors to check her out.
Balaam insist that all that defiance was because Among was building her presidential ambitions.
“Her presidential ambitions are crushed once and for all. Next! Anyone obstructing the tsunami wave will be hit politically by the will of the people. A group of individuals was intercepted campaigning against other MPs attending Oboth-Oboth ’s luncheon,”Balaam said.
He added that, “Fortunately, every voice and conversation was captured, including some MPs who have always mocked and called our dynamic civic organization “Pilau.” Let them repeat it publicly.”
The lethalness of the operation forced Among to surrender declaring that she will not contest for the office of Speaker of parliament come 25th May, 2026 noting that she is ready to serve in any other capacity in government where she will be deployed by the President.
Insiders told Ono Bwino that since Sunday, Among has been trying to reach out to the big man to apologise to him for the way she acted in their previous meeting but her efforts are still fruitless.
Ono Bwino has learnt that Museveni was advised to deal with Among decisively before the 12th parliament starts business because on ground, she has built a strong political force which is threatening his presidency especially by creating a solid relationship with the Vatican the headquarters of the Catholic Church.
Among has been a darling among top catholic church leaders in the country and abroad to the extent that the former Speaker has had four (4) private audiences with the Holy Father, a feat most African leaders and speakers of parliaments only dream about.
Of the three power centers which determine world affairs and politics that include; City of London, Vatican City and Washingdon DC, Among has been a frequent visitor to the Vatican.
Sources said that this is the reason why President Museveni invited Mityana Diocese Bishop and also the Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa to attend the meeting when he was grilling Among on accumulating wealth which she could not account for.
“With Bishop Zziwa’s presence, the President was sending a message to catholic church in Uganda that he is following whatever has been going on,” a source said.
Sources added that there is fear that the Catholic church clandestinely wished to have a catholic president and it is the reason why they secretly supported former vice president Gilbert Bukenya, they supported Dr Kizza Besigye because of Winnie Byanyima and their own Bobi Wine.
Samuel Odonga Otto the former Aruu County MP revealed that opposition legislators have been pocketing billions of monies and juicy deals from Among.
He gave a scenario where he travelled with male opposition legislators who are lawyers to South Africa and they sealed a good deal for Among, to appreciate them, she gave them an open check to shop anything they wanted from South Africa and one of them bought a watch worth Shs50m.
Former Presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi also the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Secretary General revealed that former Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda was receiving special treatment from Among including giving him frequent travels abroad where he pocketed good money as allowance.
Among is also accused of having a strong hand in saving opposition legislators from losing their parliamentary seat through court petitions filed against them in 2021 which cemented her relationship with them.
Ssemujju defended his relationship with Among saying that they met a long time back when they were both in opposition so he could not break their relationship because she joined Museveni.
But intelligence sources said that Among was using Ssemujju’s foreign travels abroad to establish political friendship with the business communities especially in Arab countries.
In her meeting with the president, sources claim that Among denied stealing from the treasury. What angered the President more is that in defending herself, she disclosed that she was getting the money to accumulate the wealth she owns from rich tycoons like HK.
Sources said that Among’s response forced the President to direct that all her business contacts be investigated also on grounds that they might be using public money stolen from parliament to widen their personal businesses.
Ono Bwino has established that when the president was dealing with Bukenya, Amama Mbabazi the former Prime Minister, Gen Edward Kayihura former Inspector General of Police who it is alleged had presidential ambitions, he crushed them completely and a number of their businesses collapsed.
