Exclusively speaking to this investigative website, maverick State Minister in charge of Lands in the Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development Dr Sam Mayanja has disclosed that he has already put his lawyers on standby as he awaits Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s lawyers to serve him with court documents.
Early this week, Buganda Kingdom Attorney General Owekitiibwa Christopher Bwanika together with Buganda Land Board chief legal officer and spokesperson Denis Bugaya confirmed to the media that their boss Kabaka Mutebi has instructed his personal lawyers of K&K Advocates to take legal action against the person of Mayanja not the Attorney General.
Kabaka’s instructions resulted from the frequent personal attacks to the person of Kabaka Mutebi, his family and the entire Buganda Kingdom leadership by Minister Mayanja.
The misunderstanding culminated from a declaration from Mayanja that Kaazi land in Wakiso, which Kabaka Mutebi is claiming through BLB was fraudulently grabbed from his siblings.
Mayanja directed the Commissioner land registration to cancel his land titles and register them in the names of the registered administrates of the estate of the fallen Buganda Kingdom King Sir Daudi Chwa.
Mayanja further directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development together with his counterpart in the Ministry of Lands to cancel the ongoing process of compensating Kabaka Mutebi billions of money over Kigo prison land insisting that the said land belongs to the estate of Chwa.
Mayanja, a seasoned lawyer also directed the de-registration of Buganda Land Board limited, the company responsible for managing the kingdom’s land from the registry of the registrar of companies claiming that it is illegally operating in the country.
Bugaya confirmed that before the end of this week, Mayanja will have received court summons and the entire plaint so that he responds to allegation including defaming the person of Mutebi the Kabaka of Buganda.
However, Mayanja laughed at Kabaka Mutebi insisting that, “ I have also instructed my lawyers to be on standby, you know those people have been threatening every person that they control Court judges that’s why they have been fraudulently winning cases but I’m telling you I’m going to expose them and by the end of this legal fight which they have started, you will be witnesing who will be naked,” Mayanja boasted.
He added that as a lawyer, he knows what it means to teel lies that is why whatever he did in Kaazi, he made sure that he followed the proper legal direction and he is ready to defend himself before the courts of law.
He maintained that the country will know how official mailo has been fraudulently transferred into the names of Kabaka Mutebi and his agents adding that he has never defamed him before well thinking members of the public.
“For a long time I have been waiting for this moment, you know many people including lawyers working for Kabaka Mutebi have been provoking me to take him to court and challenge his abuse of the official mailo and I have refused because I didn’t want to start the legal battle. But since they have started it, let the war begin, I’m ready,” Mayanja vowed.
Highly placed sources close to Mayanja revealed that if Kabaka takes legal action, the Minister’s legal team is going to be led by Bruce Musinguzi, his personal and trusted lawyer at Kampala Associated Advocate (KAA) where Mayanja is a co-founding partner.
Mayanja is also set to hire counsel Muhammad Mbabazi of Nyanzi, Kiboneka and Mbabazi Advocates and he has told this website that since Bwanika and Bugaya issued the threats, he has been receiving phone calls from different people including Buganda Kingdom Clan heads, Buganda Kingdom royals and tenants on the official mailo confirming to him their readiness to testify against the Kabaka.
In the same development, controversial city lawyer Kassim Male Mabirizi also confirmed to this website that he is ready to testify against Kabaka noting that Mayanja has opened the opportunity for Baganda to show their diastisfaction with the Kabaka concerning the way he runs their Kingdom.
“This time we want him in the dock. Previously he has been given powers of attorney but we want him to be cross examined so that he tells us how he manages our properties which we gave him to keep as a trustee,” Mabirizi said.
Before Kiryowa Kiwanuka was appointed as the Attorney General, he was leading Kabaka’s legal team but we were told that at K&K Advocates, Usaam Ssebuufu is the one handling Kabaka’s files under to supervision of his boss the co-founding partner and also president Museveni’s son-in-law Edwin Karugire.
