Controversial city businessman and also the Honorary Consul of Namibia in Uganda Godfrey Kirumira is threatening to auction property owned by Democratic Party (DP) the country’s oldest party
The development was confirmed by Fred Mukasa Mbidde the party’s national vice president who revealed that Kirumira is threatening to also auction their multipurpose printing machine operating in one of his commercial buildings on Nkrumah Road in Kampala city
He said that the party top leadership passed a resolution of renting the machine to one of their party leaders to use in his printing business and they agreed that each month he was supposed to pay them Shs4m.
But after spending months without paying them the agreed money, he told them that his business was affected by Covid-19 lockdown. He also told them that the landlord was also on his neck yet he was advised to first sort-out the landlord which he also failed to do.
This led to the party’s property being attached.
This website has established that the said machine was bought by the late Issa Kikungwe when he was still the party’s treasurer at Shs450m with the purpose of printing campaign posters of the party candidates especially during election periods because the party used to spend a lot of money in printing posters for its candidates.
The machine was also used to print other party documents. However, when Kikungwe died, the party decided to rent it because they wanted more money out of it.
DP party sources told this website that currently, the party leadership has no money which is in millions to rescue it.
“Currently we are struggling with printing our candidate’s posters. And our leaders spend much of their time sealing political deals on how to benefit from President Museveni’s government whom they signed with a cooperation agreement without thinking about the party’s existence,” a DO insider told this website.
