Lawyers of imprisoned opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye and his political assistant Hajji Obed Lutale, through a strategic meeting, planned on how to approach Justice Emmanuel Baguma the deputy head of the Criminal Division of the High Court concerning their application where they want him to recuse himself from hearing their bail applications.

This website has established that the lawyers claim that Besigye’s file is not supposed to be heard at the Criminal Division of the High Court on grounds that Richard Bivurumbuka the prosecutor who represented the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) , committed the accused persons to the Crimes War Division of the High Court.

The lawyers further claim that they do not expect justice from Justice Baguma since it was a fight to force him to fix the matter to be heard on 06th of August 2025 after the intervention of the Head of the Division Justice David Matovu and Jane Kajuga the Principal Judge.

“Some want to write to the judge before we appear before him, others want to appear and make a formal application for him to recuse himself from the matter and forward the file to the Crimes War Division of the High Court,” one of the lawyers said.

Justice Baguma has both the main file and the two files where Besigye is seeking to be released on bail after spending six months on remand before his trial kicks off. In another application, Besigye is seeking for bail after Justice Comfort Kania denied the first one even though she confirmed to him that he fulfilled all the requirements to be released on bail.

Besigye together with Hajji Lutale were arrested from Nairobi Kenya, brought back to Kampala and charged with offences related to treason.

State claims that he was planning to assassinate President Museveni and poison top government officials with intentions of taking power.

Besigye denied all the charges and filed a suit in Kenya challenging the manner in which he was kidnapped and brought back to Uganda.
