Panic engulfed the Supreme Court building in Kampala after furious Chief Justice Dr Flavian Zeija turn tables upside down while grilling the personal assistant to maverick lawyer Male Mabirizi on why he delivered a demeaning letter to him.
On Monday, one of Mabirizi’s lawyer delivered a letter dated 10th July 2026 titled, ‘Since you failed to adduce evidence in 60 days, tokyalina kyongamba’ to Justice Zeija’s office but all judicial staff deployed at Chief Justice chambers declined to stamp on the said letter.
Mabirizi’s assistant insisted and vowed not to leave until the letter is stamped arguing that if he goes back without a stamped copy, his boss was going to fire him with disgrace.
Senior staff at Chief Justice chambers took a tough decision to take the said letter to Zeija to personally guide on what to do next.

After reading the letter which had a paragraph that stated that, “Now that you have failed to adduce evidence within 60 days and rights, civil and criminal, you are personally liable in human rights violations. Nze tebanepankirako. For you, you continue playing sex with your wife as I languish in jail where even the basic facilities like the internet are lacking. You will also be imprisoned for my human rights violations.”
Immediately, Chief Justice summoned Mabirizi’s assistant to his office, he fired a number of tough questions at him including who gave him the letter.
When he confidently answered all the questions, Justice Zeija schooled the young man on how people address him when writing to him.
“His Lordship, the Hon the chief justice Supreme Court of Uganda Kampala. The Hon the Chief Justice Supreme Court of Uganda Kampala,” he taught him.
Mabirizi’s assistant told this reporter that a furious Zeija kept him in his office while he was moving around making several phone calls and furiously asking who is Mabirizi.
“As a human being, I was scared, especially seeing other judicial staff running away from his chambers. The letter was very tough but I survived,” Mabirizi’s assistant narrated.
Zeija together with Justice Musa Ssekaana of the Constitutional Court which also doubles as the Court of Appeal are the complainants in the criminal case against Mabirizi before Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.
Mabirizi was arrested in February 2026 and since then, he has been on remand at Luzira prison after Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Wanyama dismissed his several bail applications.
