Veteran journalist and also former New Vision news editor John Kakande has revealed that the Chief Of Defence Forces (CDF) is clandestinely on the move to console his blue-eyed boy who is also the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao with the Office of the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
Last week Gen Muhoozi the national chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) a civic organisation assigned his henchman also the Kasambya county legislator David Kabanda to lead the move of removing Joel Ssenyonyi from the Office of the Leader of Opposition in parliament and be replace him with a PLU member.
Kabanda also assigned Buyaga County legislator Denis Namara to execute the General’s assignment and on Wednesday, he officially wrote to Jacob Oboth Oboth the Speaker of parliament through the Clerk to parliament seeking leave to work on a private members bill which targets the removal of Ssenyonyi from the said Office.
Kabanda boasted that within a period of three months, the assignment will be delivered and the new Leader of Opposition in Parliament will be voted by all opposition and independent legislators in the parliament.
Muhoozi ordered Ssenyonyi’s removal after he held a press conference at parliament and strongly condemned his action of ordering the raid and kidnap of the Former Kampala city Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago and after posting on his alleged X handle humiliating photos of Lukwago.
However, Kakande claims that President Museveni and his son have been planning on how to get involved in choosing the Leader of Opposition in Parliament and Mao has been their potential candidate.
He adds that this is the reason they fought so much to make sure that he retains the Office of the Democratic Party (DP) president general and be elected as Laroo-Pece Division Member of Parliament.
“But what Museveni and his son should know is that them influencing the choosing of the Leader of Opposition in Parliament is not going to help them dismantle the opposition against their government because the real opposition against their government are millions of people who voted against them during the elections and nothing will change them,” Kakande said.
He was supported by the former Butambala district MP Aisha Kabanda who said that the Leader of Opposition in parliament is not only leading the opposition including other opposition political parties in parliament but he is representing the interests of the largest opposition party in the country and making sure that its interests are discussed in parliament.
Erias Mukiibi the Butambala county MP who is an independent said that he does not support the bill of involving independents in choosing the Leader of Opposition in Parliament because they will be placed in bad light of taking sides.
It should be remembered that when Mao declared his interest to contest for the position of Speaker of parliament, Muhoozi advised him to withdraw and assured him that juicy positions await him.
Kennedy Mutenyu the chairperson of the DP electoral commission said that there is nothing that can stop Mao from being the Leader of Opposition in parliament given that DP is an opposition political party.
Mutenyu accused National Unity Platform (NUP) of misusing the Leader of Opposition in Parliament position by challenging whatever the government brings to parliament including walking out of the parliament.
