Ono Bwino can exclusively report that the impending retirement of Dr Jackson Orem the Executive Director of Uganda Cancer Institute has resurrected his fight with his deputy Dr Victoria Walusansa.
Highly placed sources at Mulago based Uganda Cancer Institute have intimated to this website that Dr Orem is retiring before the end of this year and the process of recruiting his replacement has started and a number of stakeholders in the Ministry of Health, Mulago hospital and members of the Deep State are lobbying for their aspirants.
Sources said that the recruitment process has become complicated and chaotic after Dr Orem protested the move to replace him with Dr Walusansa and he his fronting a one Dr Moses Semusu.
Sources added Dr Orem is banking on President Museveni to support Dr Semusu after learning that Dr Walusansa’s bid is supported by Dr Diana Atwine the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary and also a blue-eyed girl and personal doctor to President Museveni

Ono Bwino has further established that Dr Rosemary Byanyima the Mulago hospital Executive Director is also supporting Dr Walusansa’s bid.
Sources divulged that even though Dr Orem is very influential at Cancer Institute but chances of him man Dr Ssemusu to take the job is minimal especially when Atwine and Byanyima are behind Dr Walusansa.
“Dr Christine Nabunya was fired and removed from Mulago Specialized Women and Neonatal Hospital as Executive Director and replaced with Dr Sam Ononge who was recommended by former speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among. Among was a friend to Dr Atwine, unfortunately staff who were friends to Nabunya were fired from their jobs,” a source said
The source added that Dr. Atwine also influenced Byanyima’s appointment to head Mulago Referral Hospital and also influenced Dr Walusansa’s reinstatement as deputy Executive Director of the Cancer Institute after a sharp disagreement with her boss Dr Orem.
It should be remembered that Justice Musa Ssekaana of the High Court reinstated Dr Walusansa after a successful litigation nullifying an attempt by Dr Orem to remove her from her office after declaring her office vacant and issuing an internal advertisement to replace her.
The 2024 fight resulted after president Museveni appointed Walusansa as his presidential Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist which Dr Orem based on to declare her office vacant.
