In the recently concluded People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) top leadership retreat, outgoing Kira Municipality legislator who si also the party Secretary General was assigned with the task to convince outgoing Kampala city Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago not to retire from active politics.
Highly placed sources at PFF have told Ono Bwino that the party top leaders are scared of the language and the demeanor Lukwago exhibiting since he was defeated in the general elections by National Unity Platform’s Ronald Balimwezo.
“The song he chose to sing for us during our Eid breakfast at Dr Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu’s resident scared me, but the assignment I have is to convince him not to retire from active politics because we still have a lot to offer in the struggle against Museveni and his family,” Ssemujju said.
Even though his political comrades are scared, Lukwago recently vowed that he is going to concentrate on his private legal practice and also provide legal services to political activists as he continues to advocate for rule of law in the country.
He claimed that holding the Lord Mayor’s office was not an easy task because he was being targeted by people he branded as cartels who have been threatening his life protesting his fight against their plans of grabbing public properties in the city especially land.
Ssemujju revealed that the retreat resolved to set up a special team that will engage other opposition political party leaders to establish how they can work together in the fight against Museveni noting that joining his government is not helping the country.
“People who are thinking about joining the Museveni government should know that patience pays and in rushing, accidents can be committed. People praised Jacob Oulanyah when he joined Museveni and he was supported to become a speaker of parliament but with only one year, he was dead,” Ssemujju said.
