Democratic Party (DP) national vice president Fred Mukasa Mbidde has confirmed that in the coming few days, he is going to have a one-on-one meeting with President Yoweri Museveni to discuss a number of serious political, social and economic issues with him.

Mbidde disclosed that the issue of his party president general Norbert Mao becoming the next speaker of parliament will also be discussed revealing that he wants to ask the President himself on whether he is supporting Mao on that sensitive job.

“I was surprised to see my brother Mao at the press conference declaring that he was going to contest for the position of the speaker of parliament. He didn’t consult us and the party’s top organs yet he is telling the public that the president supports him, so that’s what I want to confirm from the President,” Mbidde said.

He declared that even though Mao is his immediate boss in DP and a longtime friend, he is not going to support him but he will instead support Annet Anita Among the current Speaker of parliament.

However, this website has established that the ambitions of Dr Gerald Siranda, DP’s Secretary General are fueling the fight between the two longtime comrades.

Highly placed DP sources said that Mbidde is using the ongoing speakership race to revenge on Mao that is why he is creating another political alliance with political heavyweights in the caliber of speaker Among to help him to take over his political party’s top leadership from Mao.

“Even though Mao had frustrated Mbidde by not fulfilling the promises he made to him after the signing of the NRM-DP political alliance, in the 2025 delegates conference in Mbarara, he decided to support Mao after he assured him that he will also support him to succeed him at the end of the current term as the party president general,” a source told Ono Bwino.

After securing victory in Mbarara delegates conference, Mbidde declared his interest to contest for the Buwekula county Member of Parliament seat, this was premised on the assurance he received from Mao that Deep State members will help him secure the victory.

However, he was defeated while Mao was helped to win the Laroo Pece parliamentary seat.

Sources said that after the loss, Mbidde started getting suspicious of Mao’s promise of supporting him as his replacement for their party’s top most position after words circulated around the walls at the party headquarters that Mao preferred Siranda as his replacement.

Mbidde started getting information from his people inside the party leadership that while he was being sidelined, Siranda was busy building his political base to help him to take over the top party leadership position.

This reporter established that few weeks back, a furious Mutenyu stormed DP headquarters at Balintuma Road in Bukesa and forced himself into his office while assuring everyone present that Siranda has no powers to fire him from his office.

Sources cited Mbidde’s invisible hand in Mutenyu’s comeback after being angered by statements that humiliated him that he was fired by Siranda, a person with no constitutional powers to do so.

“Mbidde knows very well that money will influence who replaces Mao, that is why he is creating political alliances with politicians like Speaker Among who have money and chances are high that she is going to retain her speakership office. So Mbidde is trying to do his political calculations well. In the recent party elections, Richard Ssebamala was a man to watch because he had a lot of money which DP sources allege, he received from where now Mbidde is doing his lobbying,” a source said.

He added that even though Ssebamala was given a lot of money, he lacks political experience to defeat Mbidde who was in alliance with Mao.

The issue of renewing the DP-NRM political alliance is also on the agenda and it is the reason why Mbidde is not supporting Mao.

Sources divulged that Mao has sidelined Mbidde and given Siranda an opportunity to sit on top of the negotiation table.

Sources further disclosed that both Mbidde and Siranda are facing a credibility issues that is why members of the Deep State trust and value Mao more than them.
