The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s longtime friend and also confidant has narrated why the grandson of Amos Kaguta is not scared and not bothered about the bad publicity he sometimes receives worldwide.
Speaking to Rwanda based YouTube channel, The Long Form Podcast, Alan Kasujja a veteran international journalist revealed that his close relationship with Muhoozi has been cemented since their childhood.
Kasujja said that since then, they watch each other’s back as loyal friends and he never thinks that there will be a day when he will betray him, neither does he think that Muhoozi will also do the same.
Responding to the concerns about the bad publicity his friend is receiving worldwide, where some political commentators have blamed him for not respecting the law, with some calling him a dictator, Kasujja said that the Muhoozi he knows is not bothered by statements made about him. His main focus is on building Uganda that is why he spends much of his time thinking about the peace and development of Uganda.
“He (Muhoozi) is like an NRM historical, they have done a lot for Uganda but don’t want publicity. Even him, he has done a lot for Uganda but he doesn’t want publicity. Like when I land on a good speech he has made, I usually text him praising him. But he only responds with, sure, thanks and he moves on,” Kasujja said.
He however said that he is not shocked over Muhoozi’s publicity because his works will exonerate him. He gave the example of his uncle the Rwandan President Paul Kagame who has done a lot of things in a short period as a president but does not praise himself worldwide.
He warned that such leaders are very complicated and they are usually not scared when it comes to making a decision that will help their country move forward.
He divulged that this is the reason why he laughed when he read messages from some people threatening and provoking President Kagame on issues concerning tribal fights in Democratic Republic of Congo and threatening Rwanda’s existence
Kasujja added that he is going to use this period after retiring from BBC to help young Africans write African stories for the world instead of waiting for whites who front their own interest when it comes to writing African stories.
He added that because Muhoozi is focused, the entire security fraternity in Uganda especially the top leadership of the army have started feeling his leadership.
He divulged that currently, during all high-level meetings, before a meeting is ended, a final decision on a matter has to be taken unlike previous CDF’s who kept them waiting until a phone call was made somewhere to approve the decision agreed upon in the meeting.
Even though he is his confidant, Kasujja dodged to answer whether Muhoozi was shocked when Museveni frustrated his plans of taking power in 2026 through his Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) after making a pronouncement assuring Ugandans that they will be in good hands when he is in leadership.
He added that whenever they meet, they spend much of their time discussing great revolutionary politicians and the last time they met they discussed about Mao Zedong of China. Kasujja disclosed that people like Mao Zedong inspire the CDF and this is the reason why he does not entertain mediocracy.
Kasujja said that Muhoozi prioritizes youths and categorizes them accordingly because he knows very well that there are many of them who got skills through education but don’t have jobs. He also knows that there are others who lack skills and don’t have anything to do.
Kasujja is not the first person close to Muhoozi to warn the public about his determined decisions concerning the country. Recently, Andrew Mwenda said that if Muhoozi takes over power, he will imprison even his friends if they are caught on the wrong side of the law unlike his father who thinks that leaving other people to exercise impunity against others helps him retain power
He said that if Muhoozi was the president and city traders lost their merchandise because of floods caused by government officials like Hajjat Sharifa Buzeki the KCCA director and others who slept on their job by allowing controversial businessman Hamis Kiggundu to build on top of the Nakivubo drainage channel, many of them would be in prison.
Mwenda said that in Museveni’s government, there are many government technocrats who follow the law when executing the presidential blue letter directives and thousands of directives are placed on hold because they violate the law unlike Buzeki who let the businessman violate the law on Nakivubo drainage channel
Fred Mukasa Mbidde who is also a friend and a lawyer to Muhoozi also said that what he reads on social media allegedly posted by Muhoozi is far different from the man he knows because his decision making and actions are more serious than what many see on social media.
Mbidde warned that once Muhoozi takes power, he is likely to imprison his friends who walk on the wrong side of the law.
However, even though Muhoozi’s friends portray him as a serious national leader who follows the laws, National Unity Platform (NUP) members and other opposition supporters have filed several complaints at the International Criminal Court of Justices accusing him of participating and commissioning crimes against humanity
Recently, Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo accused Muhoozi of being behind their kidnap in Uganda. The duo spent more than a month incommunicado on allegations of trying to destabilize Uganda after the President Museveni accused them of coming into the country as experts in riots.
They claim that Muhoozi is keeping hundreds of Ugandans in a secret incommunicado inside Special Forces Command training barracks at Kasenyi in Wakiso district.
Even though Special Command Forces spokesperson Maj Jimmy Omara denied the allegations, Kasujja said that the issue of Ugandans going missing in their country is bad and should be handled seriously because he doesn’t want to see Uganda going back in the dark days of presidents Amin and Obote
He explained that it was the bad leadership of president Milton Obote and Iddi Amin that forced him and his other family members and other Ugandans including Muhoozi’s family into exile a thing he doesn’t want to see happen again in Uganda.
