Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has resurrected the poverty talk concerning Butambala county Member of Parliament branding him a political broker who betrayed their agenda of convincing the elites to pick interest in the politics in Buganda region.
He narrated they initiated the agenda after realising that politicians from the region especially the likes of former ministers James Kakooza and Vicent Nyanzi were embarrassing Buganda in the national political arena. On this background, he decided to mobilize political support from all political candidates in the opposition who have good leadership qualities.
He noted that this decision created a lot of problems for him from his bosses in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) because his bosses were angry with him and accussed him of supporting other candidates from other political parties yet he was the FDC Spokesperson.
He narrated how he suffered with Muwanga in Butambala when he was campaigning for him.
“ I get shocked whenever I see Muwanga Kivumbi becoming a political broker, because of him, I left my good home and wife and together with my other friends like Betty Nambooze and Medard Lubega Ssegona we camped in Butambala, an area that was smelling poverty to campaign for him. I remember to get a bath, I was supposed to wait until it was dark so that I could bathe from a nearby banana plantation because the place I was rented for accommodation did not have a bathroom,” Ssemujju recalled.
He added that they had to also sleep in different homes because Muwanga did not have a home in the area where all of them could sleep but they fought and won the elections that is why at whatever cost, he will never betray his comrade including Muwanga.
Ssemujju was responding to allegations that National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) gave Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze an assignment to camp in Masaka and make sure that Mathias Mpuuga, Abed Bwanika of Nyendo Mukungwe, Kimanya Kabonera respectively and other incumbents who betrayed him never return to parliament through the coming elections
This is not the first time when Mpuuga’s political allies are discussing Muwanga’s poverty in the public. When he was appointed by Bobi Wine to replace Mpuuga as his deputy president in charge of Buganda, presidential candidate Mubarak Munyagwa and Moses Bigirwa claimed that when Muwanga won a seat in parliament for the first time, it was Mpuuga who gave him the suit he wore during his swearing-in at parliament
Bigirwa added that before Muwanga entered parliament, as a political activist, he was surviving on Mpuuga and other politicians’ money and it is a shock to see him now turning against him and others because of Bobi Wine.
However, Kivumbi told them that he knows very well that so many people helped him including Charles Rwomushana who always demands ten thousand from him which he gave him to buy water when he was demonstrating against lifting of term limits from the constitution, but he cannot betray his principal as a leader and a politician.
“No, because you helped me, you wanted me to keep quiet and support you as you’re stealing from the country’s treasury? Talk whatever you what but I will stand on my principals of not dealing with corrupt people,” Kivumbi said
Sources said that Muwanga is a target to all Mpuuga political allies after learning that he was assigned by Bobi Wine to make sure that NUP wins all constituencies in Buganda starting with Kampala.
The most targeted individuals are; Mityana district woman legislator Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa, Mityana South’s Richard Lumu, Entebbe Municipality’s Mbwatekamwa Kakembo, Busiro East’s Medard Lubega Ssegona who betrayed Bobi Wine and sided with Mpuuga who was accused of planning a coup against Bobi Wine.
Mpuuga the former Leader of Opposition in Parliament formed his Democratic Front (DF) after declining to take the position of the party leadership to apologies to the country, return the Shs500m service award and resign from the office of the Commissioner of parliament
Political commentator Frank Gashumba who disclosed that Mpuuga is not going to win the coming parliamentary seat said that after realising that Bobi Wine is still politically strong in the region, he decided to use money to compromise voters noting that Masaka is going to be a political battle ground between Mpuuga and Bobi Wine
Sources said that Mpuuga is using the current financial crisis among Bobi Wine’s party candidates to weaken them in Buganda through bankrolling candidates who crossed to his party like Winfred Nakandi, Aida Nakuya, David Musiri and others who were denied party cards in NUP.
Ono Bwino has established that apart from the Shs3m Mpuuga paid to nominate his party candidates countrywide, he also gave them between Shs30 to 50m to facilitate their political campaigns.
According to Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama’s electoral commission records, NUP fronted 297 parliamentary candidates while DF fronted 82 but they are all in Buganda.
Sources said that NUP candidates are worried concerning how they will protect their votes from being stolen by candidates with bags of money who may use it to compromise their agents and leave them to change of their declaration forms
Ssemujju advised that aspirants who don’t have money should not waste their time competing in elective elections because Museveni turned elections into a field where only people with money ca compete.
