Ono Bwino can exclusively report that Norbert Mao the Democratic Party (DP) President General who also doubles as the minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in president Museveni’s government is at crossroads after his two confidants exhibited their interest to replace him in 2030 when the party gets new leadership.
Highly placed sources at DP’s Balituma road headquarters have told Ono Bwino that both the party’s national vice president Fred Mukasa Mbidde and the party Secretary General Gerald Siranda are clandestinely mobilizing support to replace Mao and each of them is trying to set the party system which will guarantee him victory.
Currently, Mbidde a prominent Commercial lawyer and also Uganda’s representative in the East African Assembly is contesting for Buwekula county Member of Parliament seat and Siranda is serving his first term in the East African Assembly and he is vying to contest again in 2027 to retain this seat.
Both of them are already boasting and telling party members that after serving twenty years as DP president general, in 2030, Mao is not coming back and has endorsed him even though Mao has not yet publicly announced that he is not coming back.
“Mbidde told us that the reason why he decided to be Mao’s campaign manager as a DP president general candidate in 2025 was because he assured him that he is not coming back. He also promised him that he is ready to support him in 2030,” one of DP members told this website
This website has also established that Mbidde received a lot of praise for pressurising the party leadership to pay nomination fees for all party candidates vying for parliamentary seats yet Siranda was against the proposal.
When the party received money in billions on the party bank account in the morning of Thursday, which was the last day for nominating MP candidates, Siranda was placed on the wall to pay the money to the Electoral Commission bank accounts to facilitate the nomination of their flag bearers.
Sources told this website that recently, Mao summoned Siranda and gave him a last warning. He also directed him to clean his house because he is tired of receiving complaints with evidence on how his runs the party’s Secretariate.
However, other sources disclosed that if Mao misses being appointed as the vice president or prime minister by president Museveni as he wishes, chances are high that he is going to contest again as a DP president general.
Bukoto central legislator Richard Ssebamala who was frustrated from contesting against Mao in 2025 is also on ground mobilizing support to contest again in 2030 and this website has established that he is in talks with other political parties in neighbouring countries especially Kenya.
