Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has revealed that after being defeated in the fight against lifting the presidential age limit from the country’s constitution, as opposition, they decided to visit all homes of the legislators who voted against the bill as a sign of celebrating their braveness and plant trees to remember the day when the last pillar of the constitution was buried and cemented President Museveni’s life presidency.

Among the homes they visited included that of National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislator Sarah Nakawunde Temulanda who stood her ground and voted against the bill. When he was given the opportunity to address the gathering, the then Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) praised Temulanda and since then, the two have been friends according to highly placed sources to both former legislators.

Sources disclosed that this friendship is the reason why Bobi Wine was supporting her bid to carry the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket as Mpigi district woman Member of Parliament. He was however shocked when the ticket was given to the incumbent Teddy Nambooze.

Bobi Wine directed the party’s Elections Management Committee (EMC) to review their first decision and it was the reason why they spent a lot of time before declaring the party ticket bearer for Mpigi.

Insiders told this website that during that period, Bobi Wine went through a lot of pressure from Nambooze’s godfathers especially those from the catholic church

“Bobi Wine personally knows very well the dealings Nambooze has with NRM politicians in Mpigi district especially Amelia Kyambadde and it was the reason why he was preferring Temulanda to carry the ticket but he was overpowered and compromised,” a source said.

Sources added that it is the reason why Bobi Wine attended three consecutive functions in Mpigi where Nambooze was present and refused to recognise her presence before the gathering.

Sources said that Mpigi, Gomba and Kampala districts are top of the areas which gave Bobi Wine headache when choosing party ticket flag bearers.

Sources further disclosed that after realising that her efforts of compromising the party’s election body were frustrated by Bobi Wine, Nambooze pleaded with the Catholic church leadership in Mpigi to talk to Bobi Wine and convince him not to withdraw the party ticket from her in favour of Temulanda.

Sources claim that among those who compromised Bobi Wine at the last hour was father Deogratias Kateregga Kiibi, the parish priest of St Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Mpigi Town Council, father Jude Kyagulanyi of Kibanga Catholic Parish, father Kato of Muduma and a number of others who are also personal friends to Bobi Wine

This website can exclusively report that among those who failed to secure a NUP ticket, it was only Temulanda who received a call from Bobi Wine even though what they discussed is still scanty.

Temulanda decided to contest as an independent candidate.

This website further established that the Catholic church did not only save Nambooze. They also influenced the giving of the party ticket to Eugenia Nassolo who defeated incumbent Aloysious Mukasa in Lubaga South who is alleged to be a brother-in-law to Bobi Wine.

Sources related that after understanding that Mukasa was leading her, Nassolo resorted on using the influence of the catholic church to compromise the entire process to help her hit her target.

“Rev. Fr. Achilles Mayanja (the administrator of Lubaga Cathedral) was very instrumental in talking directly to Bobi Wine and pleading for Nassolo because she has grown up in the church. Nassolo is also deeply rooted in Buganda Kingdom establishment. Unfortunately, her immediate competitor Mukasa has not been in good books with some of the party top leadership because of the alleged bribery statement he made after winning the elections,” a NUP source said.

Mukasa denied having made the statements that in 2021 parliamentary elections, he bought the NUP ticket huge sums of money.

Mukasa disclosed that the said statements are manufactured by his political opponents. He challenged his accusers to produce evidence of an audio and video recording of him making the said statements.
