Bukoto Central legislator Richard Ssebamala has summoned all aspirants seeking to contest on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket for the position of the Member of Parliament for a strategic and ‘clean the house’ meeting before being officially nominated.

Sources close to Ssebamala revealed that the meeting is expected to take place on 19th of August 2025 at yet an undisclosed place and those expected to attend the meeting have been already informed.

Ssebamala informed aspirants to pick nomination papers and contest on the DP ticket in a bid to fight to liberate their party from the leadership of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao.

Ssebamala made the announcements days after jetting into the country from the United States of America and China where he alleges to have engaged DP diaspora leaders, supporters and promising future funders who all agreed to join the struggle to force Mao and his political allies out of DP.

Kennedy Mutenyu the DP Electoral Commission chairperson denied Ssebamala the opportunity to contest for the position of DP president general on grounds that he did not have the requirements.

Sources claim that Ssebamala returned from abroad with a lot of money which he is going to use to facilitate the candidates going to contest on DP ticket and each one is set to receive Shs10m to help him during the campaigns.

Sources said that Ssebamala made the decision to fund DP parliament candidates after learning that Mao’s administration took a decision not to fund parliamentary candidates and they decided to put all their money on local government candidates including district chairpersons and councillors.

Mao claims that Ssebamala is being funded by his enemies in the NRM government who feel threatened because of the political coalition he signed with President Museveni which resulted in his appointment as a minister.

He assured all those who want to contest on DP ticket including those who failed to secure a ticket in NRM, NUP and other political parties to join DP becasue their party ticket is for free.
