Fred Mukasa Mbidde the opposition Democratic Party (DP) national vice president has defended his top client the Chief of Défense Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba concerning allegations of influencing violence and personally participating in violating human rights especially of opposition members.
Mbidde, the former East African legislative assembly legislator insists that he cannot believe that the Muhoozi he personally knows is the one behind the violent and threatening messages being posted on his X handle.
He adds that on the several occasions they have met, he has always looked to be a very humble, intelligent and no-nonsense person who cannot waste his time writing nonsense on social media.
“I’m not sure that those statements are made by my client, because when you meet him, he is a very different person from that one posting those statements. That’s not the Gen Muhoozi I know,” Mbidde claims.
He praised Gen Muhoozi for being a nationalist and for putting in place mechanisms to fight corruption in the army by putting corrupt army officers behind bars.
He added that Gen Muhoozi has started real professionalism of the army through restructuring the barracks from the old model which was built by uneducated persons like president Idi Amin Dada and currently the army has started making money.
Mbidde, a defeated Makindye West Member of Parliament challenged journalists especially Radio 4’s Adam Kungu to secure an appointment with Gen Muhoozi to interview him because that is when he will discover that the person posting on his social media is different from the real Muhoozi.
Mbidde also challenged aggrieved Ugandans to petition Court with evidences proving that his client is the owner of the said social media handle.
Mbidde disclosed that going to court will give Ugandans an opportunity to establish the real person behind that social media handle that posts issues concerning Gen Muhoozi and if indeed he is the one, he will explain why he is doing so.
It should be remembered that when maverick city lawyer Kassim Male Mabirizi instituted criminal charges against Gen Muhoozi in his personal capacity on allegation of violating military laws, Mbidde put up a spirited legal fight and pleaded with Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate to take action against City Hall Magistrate who allowed private prosecutor Mabirizi to amend his criminal charges against the person of Muhoozi.
The said criminal file was recalled from City Hall Court and immediately, the Chief Magistrate invited the State Attorney from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to take over the criminal file, a move that lawyer Mabirizi protested.
Mbidde who was appointed by the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in president Museveni’s government Norbert Mao to led his political campaigns to remain the president general of the DP also disclosed that he was shocked to see the photo of Edward Ssebuufu (Eddy Mutwe) on the social media purportedly posted by Gen Muhoozi.
He joked that he thought that Mutwe was very strong big lad and it is the reason why National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) hired him to command his security team.
But the Mutwe he saw was a small man, very humble and humiliated. He wondered if whether after the humiliation Mutwe will still have the capacity to lead Bobi Wine’s team.
Mbidde made the shocking statements hours before Bobi Wine and other NUP leadership and Mutwe family members visited him at Masaka prison and narrated what he told them he went through in captivity.
Bobi Wine stated that his chief bodyguard was brutaly tortured in the most barbaric manner.
Bobi disclosed that Mutwe was electrocuted, subjected to water boarding, while they stuffed a piece of cloth in his mouth and tied it around his neck, his private parts were squeezed as they hit him with a baton, they tied his arms with hand-cuffs and stepped on them, which ate into his skin among other horrors.
He added that Mutwe was flogged four times every day for all the time he spent under incommunicado detention and the first torture sessions started early every morning.
He narrated that he now has difficulty finding sleep because every time he closes his eyes, he sees the monsters (who tortured him) approaching him.
