President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Justice Flavian Zeija as the new Deputy Chief Justice.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 142(1) & (2) of the 1995 Constitution, His Excellency the President, Gen (rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has made the following new appointments to the judiciary; Deputy Chief Justice: Hon. Justice Zeija Flavian,” a press release from State House, on their X platform dated February 7, 2025 reads in part.
Justice Zeija has been the Principal Judge of the High Court and he now replaces Justice Richard Buteera who is retiring from the Supreme Court in May this year.
The President also appointed Justice Muzamil Mutangula Kibedi as Justice of the Supreme Court.
In the same press release the Fountain of Honour also appointed eight (8) judges of the Court of Appeal.
The eight include: Former High Cpurt Civil Division boss Justice Musa Ssekaana, Lady Justice Sabiiti Cornelia Kakooza, Stella Alibateese, Lady Justice Florence Nakacwa, Hon. Byaruhanga Jesse Rugyema, Musisi John Mike, Lady Justice Ketra Kitariisibwa Katunguka and Hon. Lady Justice Nambayo Esta.
The President has appointed twenty one (21) judges of the High Court for a period of two years, effective upon their assumption of duty.
