There are many different ways people have sexual encounters. A number of people think sex is the only way to have fun but there are very many other ways. Rubbing, blowjobs, orally and fingering are some of these ways. Fingering is when people use their fingers and/or hands to stimulate and pleasure their partner’s genitals.

While fingering is one of the low-risk sexual activities, you can still get an infection from fingering.

Fingering is a fun way of exploring the vagina and is quite pleasurable to some people and not to the others as well.

Consequences of fingering

Doctor Kugonza Martin a gynecologist at Kampala hospital explains that the soreness, tears, and force from fingering can cause irritation in the vagina or un-lubricated anus. Daily and forceful fingering to this vaginal area can lead to tears, soreness and cuts.

If the soreness and itchiness have lasted a few weeks without going away, it could lead to an infection. These Infections can get worse if they are not treated, therefore one has to go for the check-ups if she does not feel well.

You may also bleed lightly after being fingered. However, in some cases, STIs such as Chlamydia can lead to spotting between periods and it may give the false impression that the bleeding is from fingering. This is often in women who already have a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or an infection.

How to overcome the infections?

The gynecologist says fingering is a low-risk sexual activity but that does not mean that no risk is involved at all. To be safe, ask your partner to always wash his hands before fingering you. It is also important that their nails are short and not sharp to prevent cuts and tears. Long nails can easily cut the sensitive skin inside your vagina. If possible, your partner can also cover his hand with a condom or a disposable glove so that bacteria from their fingernails do not get into cuts or tears.

If you are not well-lubricated naturally, consider using water-based lubrication to reduce friction. If you experience vagina dryness, you can consider lubrication as well.

In most cases, the bleeding caused by fingering is temporary and will end in a matter of days. In most cases, the tears and cuts inside your vagina may not need medical attention. However, if the itchiness and soreness do not end in a few days, seek medical attention. The best thing to do is to also give the cuts and tears some time to heal before having any sexual activity.

If you do not feel comfortable while being fingered, you should always ask your partner to stop. Because you’re healthy first and speak where you’re not comfortable because that’s your life.

According to sexual expert Hamidah Namatovu, she further said not everyone cleans under their nails and even when you do you’re not quite sure that the fingers are clean therefore fingering 100% causes an infection.

Does fingering break virginity?

Dr. Prosper of J.O.Y Medical centre in Ndeeba hospital explains that the only time a finger can break virginity is when the fingering is done constantly and with a lot of force. This is because the V of a female doesn’t have a specific sensor that differentiates between a penis and a fingers therefore as long as something is inserted into the vagina with enough force and energy, it can break the hymen thus causing someone to lose their virginity. It however causes soreness and tears on the vaginal area of a woman.

Sex expert Hamidah Namatovu says that it can happen but to a lesser extent. “It depends what kind of fingering took place because fingers differ and a man can’t eat what he has not felt. Virginity is a hymen that goes away so when it goes away the muscles join but it is so difficult for someone to use a finger and remove the hymen thus fingering cannot not remove virginity.
