Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has blasted retired Gen David Munungu Sejusa for inciting security against presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) supporters who are mimicking soldiers

Ssemujju was responding to Gen Sejusa’s social media statement where he warned Bobi Wine supporters to stop mimicking security as they did when their principal was campaigning in Luwero district.

When Bobi Wine was in Luwero, some of his supporters were seen with toy guns made out of yam stems while taking cover on top of a building with the toy gun as commandos do when they are offering security to influential leaders

“This is absolutely IRRESPONSIBLE, ndugu. Discourage it. Mimicking armed soldiers aiming guns from whatever point is very dangerous. Whether using toys, bamboo, or banana fibres, DON’T! Politics is serious business, in many places, of life and death, why is it a game, a comedy to you? I see your group rounded up, etc by police, yet, it’s fun to you? And keep doing silly things which don’t add value at all?” Sejusa stated on his X handle

Ssemujju said that he was shocked to see Sejusa the country’s former spy master and national coordinator of security intelligence making such a statement and inciting security to arrest innocent youths who were just expressing their love through fun to their presidential candidate and knowing very well that they can do nothing

“Sejusa should know that currently we no longer have intelligent commanders in security who can assess the situation and react as it was when was still in service. Now we have commanders who are competing on who can beat opposition politicians and supporters to make Museveni happy. So, making such a statement is like inciting them to arrest those boys and torture them as they having doing to others,” Ssemujju said

He added that when he was growing up, before joining the university, he was taken to elementary military training (muchakamuchaka) and he was taught how to operate a gun so he knows it very well because by then the president was very sure that Ugandans love him and he wanted to demystify the gun which people were scared of so much.

“Sejusa will start telling parents to arrest boys playing cooking games with their younger daughters because they are pretending to be father and mother. I know now they are scared of the people they lead and whatever they do, they think that they want to overthrow their government,” Ssemujju said.

He pleaded with the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Museveni that instead of arresting these boys because of insensitive statements from people like Sejusa, they should look for these youths who are mimicking soldiers and give them good training because they have shown interest in the career.

He added that they can become good soldiers.

He divulged that in other countries where leaders don’t fear citizens, that’s how they spot talent and nurture it for the good of the country.

The development comes at a time when hundreds of National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders and supporters including Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, Doreen Kaija, Olivia Lutaaya and a number of others are rotting on prison on charges related to mimicking soldiers.

Security is scared that leaving civilians to mimic soldiers can fuel criminality.
