Defeated Mawokota South legislator Yusuf Nsibambi

Experienced retired New Vision editor and also political scientist John Kakande has revealed that the meeting which controversial defeated Mawokota South legislator Yusuf Nsibambi held with President Museveni days to the 2026 election day is the reason why National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), his national deputy president in charge of Buganda Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi and a number of grassroot political mobilizers are currently in huge trouble.

Kakande based his argument on Nsibambi’s narration where he himself revealed how he held a meeting with President Museveni on 7th of January 2026 before Ugandans went to cast their ballot for president and MPs on 15th of January 2026, and in the said meeting, Nsibambi confirmed that he delved into a number of issues including Bobi Wine’s deadly plan during and after the elections.

Appearing on Peter Kibazo’s Gasimbaganne ne bannamawulire on radio Simba, Kakande alleged that he listened to Nsibambi narrating how they discussed with the President on how to solve the problem of ‘egaali’ which is a group of youth who Bobi Wine directed his party leaders to establish so that they can help them to do grassroot mobilization, provide security to them, protect their votes and demand for their win if their votes are stolen.

President Museveni said that a day to the election day, he spent the entire night talking to different youths who told to him how they were planning to disorganize elections through violence by attacking polling stations where NUP candidates were defeated to make sure that winners are not announced.

He boasted that it is the reason why security killed seven people and others survived with serious injuries at Muwanga’s home in the Butambala contest where he was contesting with Erias Mukiibi Sserunjogi, a brother to Ramathan Ggobi the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and also a blue-eyed boy to Gen Salim Saleh.

Museveni claimed that security intervened to save the situation as Kivumbi’s hired goons were moving towards the tallying centre in Butambala to disorganise the announcement of Mukiibi as the winner.

Currently, Kivumbi and a number of his supporters are in prison on charges related to terrorism while Nsibambi confirmed that he was among the persons who first met Kivumbi immediately after the incident happened and found him crying.

However, even though he admitted holding a discussion with the president in their last meeting where he led a delegation of more than seventeen opposition leaders, the issue of the political prisoners was on the agenda but that of Kivumbi and Bobi Wine were not discussed.

He disclosed that the President said that he has no power to release people who are currently facing criminal charges adding that the only way he can save them is once they take plea bargaining as it was done previously with NUP supporters who were facing criminal charges before the military court.

He said that even though he has been in the opposition, he has been meeting President Museveni and sources inside his Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said that he played a central role in helping Patrick Amurite Oboi get the billions of moneys which he used to facilitate his 2021 presidential campaigns.

In one of the videos circulating on the social media, opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye confirmed that Nsibambi whom he branded as Kikonyoga Kanonya is among the opposition leaders who surrendered the political struggle against Museveni and have been holding private dealing.
