Maverick Kira Municipality legislator Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has kicked off door to door campaigns pleading with residents of Kira Municipality not to attend Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s coming political rally in his constituency.
Gen Muhoozi the Chief of Défense Forces (CDF) and also the chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is expected to be the chief guest at a thanks giving ceremony organized by his blue eyed boy Daniel Kananura.
Kananura confirmed to this website that Gen Muhoozi has confirmed his presence at the ceremony expected to be on 22nd June, 2025 at Kirema playground in Kireka Kira Municipality.
“The General, being the chairperson of PLU, will also launch our local leadership structures in our area and emphasise the importance of working together with the NRM leadership as he guided recently,” Kananura said.

He added that they also expect other PLU top leaders David Kabanda their Secretary General, Micheal Nuwagira their national vice chairperson, Micheal Mawanda their chief of mobilization to support him as he uses the ceremony to declare his interest to contest for Kira Municipality Member of Parliament seat come 2026 parliamentary elections.
However, he accused the incumbent legislator of moving door to door convincing locals not to attend his ceremony because of Gen Muhoozi’s presence claiming that attending it will prove that they are also supporting kidnapping, torture and killing of opposition supporters.
Joseph Mukiibi a resident of Kasokoso confirmed Kananura’s allegations stating that Ssemujju told them that attending a ceremony where Muhoozi is will be supporting what was done to Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s Chief bodyguard Edward Ssebufu (Eddy Mutwe) who was kidnapped and badly tortured and after, Muhoozi posted him on his social media handle boasting that he was at his basement learning Runyankole and later imprisoned on what he termed as politically motivated fabricated criminal charges.
He added that Ssemujju pleaded with them to join him by voting him back to parliament to fight Museveni’s family rule.
He insisted that Kananura is also a member of Museveni’s family that is why in the 2021 elections, he contested in one of the constituencies in Western Uganda on the NRM ticket but he was badly defeated and he is now is trying his chances in Kira to cement his relative’s family rule.
However, Kananura rubbished Ssemujju’s allegations claiming that the former celebrated political journalist is just scared of him because of his overwhelming support which he has in the area.
He threatened that if Ssemujju doesn’t stop blackmailing him, he is going to expose his dealings with members of Museveni’s Deep State members from who he has benefited alot.
“Let us have a fair political playground, why is he panicking. First of all, after the judgement against his friend counsel Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, he has planted spies on me to take my pictures when I’m giving money to my voters to buy water and other drinks and deepen our mobilization drive on the ground,” Kananura insist.
He added that Ssemujju has been investigating to establish his family background noting that his findings will not help him because both of them are not born in Kira, Ssemujju is born in Bijaba in Lwengo district, he bought and start business in Kira which made him a resident and a voter in Kira like him.
Kananura mobilizes people to come in large numbers to report to Gen Muhoozi their problems including the eviction threats especially those in Kasokoso and Kiganda noting that Muhoozi and Museveni are the only people with people who can save them not Ssemujju who has been using their problems from 2016 to enriching himself without helping them.
Voters in the constituency we talk to said that Ssemujju is scared because he was very sure that he was going to use his financial muscles to defeat NUP’s George Musisi but Kananura is also has money and ready to spend it has Ssemujju and their competition started on who has more campaigning posters in the area.
Kasokoso issue is also threatening Ssemujju because it has been his winning ground and the area is highly populated compare to other polling stations in the constituency but Kananura has recruited a number of grass root mobilizers including Ssemujju’s campaign agents and have started leaking his wining secretes to his political opponents.
But when asked about Kananura’s threat, Ssemujju asked who Kananura was to threaten a leader of his calibre.
He boasted that he has enough experience to represent the people of Kira Municipality and the entire country because he is sitting on the table where the country’s issues are solved and the budget is shared.
He warned people especially those in Buganda to stop voting people out of excitement, noting that going to parliament is like going to a place where a cake is shared and where one has the opportunity of getting a piece of it through fighting, that is why they should’ve sent a person who can fight for their interests.
Sources inside Kananura’s camp told this website that what they want is to get enough votes so that they can be declared winners worthy winners and even if Ssemujju runs to court to challenge their victory, he will not succeed.
Kira Municipality is one of the constituencies with a huge number of voters. It has more that sixteen thousand voters.
