Owekitiibwa Israel Kitooke Kazibwe the Buganda Kingdom Information and Mobilization minister has confirmed to this investigative website that his boss Charles Peter Mayiga is set to discharge staff including ministers in Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s government who are adding nothing to the development of the Kingdom.

In a phone interview, Kitooke assured us that Kingdom staff who are innovative and hardworking will not lose their job, however, his boss already notified them as ministers to inform their line agencies and organisations to pull up their stocks because management is tired of working with incompetent poeple who add nothing to the Kingdom’s progress.

“Katikkiro wants Kingdom organisations and agencies to start making profits so that they can pay staff on time, pay government taxes and other government requirements like contributing to staff’s National Social Security Fund (NSSF) savings. The Katikkiro wants us to operate normally without asking for favours from central government,” Kitooke said.

When he was celebrating 12 years as the Katikkiro of Buganda, Mayiga revealed that in the coming years, he is going to put all his efforts into development of the Kingdom organisations and make sure that each one of them becomes financially independent.

He warned that he is going to be more tough than the previous years.

Mayiga also reiterated the same message when he was addressing the Kingdom’s parliament early this month where he advised county chiefs, sub county chiefs and other local Kingdom leaders to strategise with their line ministers to make sure that they set up revenue generating projects to build the Kingdom because it is the only way Buganda will recover it’s lost glory.

“Early this year, I meet the top leadership of the companies under my ministry. I’m talking about companies like CBS radio, BBS television and others. I told them that time for jokes is over and it’s time to make money. I implored them that those who will not manage to hit the new targets will be replaced with others who can add to the development of the Kingdom,” Kitooke said.

Rumours of reshuffles are spreading like wild fire and a number of staff including ministers are very scared of losing their jobs. Because of the pressure, some are spending nights in offices thinking and planning on how to hit the new heights.

Sources said that Mayiga’s administration was financially hit badly by Covid 19 lockdown and since then it has been struggling to recover and at times failure to pay their staff and some Kingdom operations and developments halt a moment and the recovery process proceeding.

Sources said that Buganda Land Board was the Kingdom’s cash cow, however, it has suffered financial setbacks which resulted from the appointment of their pioneer Chief Executive Officer David Kiwalabye Male as a minister in charge of security, palaces, culture and the frequent bad publicity against the company from serial litigant Kassim Male Mabirizi who dragged Kabaka Mutebi to Court on ground that he is fraudulently collecting money from settlers on the official mailo yet he is just a custodian and not the owner of the said land.

Mabirizi was joined by senior lawyer and also the junior minister in charge of lands Dr Sam Mayanja who publicly warned the public to stop paying dues to the Kingdom claiming that Buganda Land Board is illegally operating. They were supported by president Museveni immediately after the 2021 general elections.

CBS radios has also not been performing well and when their top management were asked why, they claimed that it is because of the operating license which Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) revoked in 2009 for fueling the 2009 riots in Buganda.

Mayiga fought and CBS recovered the license.

BBS terefayina, Majestic Brand, Olwendo water, K2 telecom and other Kingdom companies have been also struggling but Mayiga appointed a new board of governors to guide these companies leadership on how to make money and run independently.

When Kabaka Mutebi appointed Mayiga as Katikkiro in 2013, he abolished working for free in Kabaka’s government and staff including ministers started getting monthly pay, allowances, cars to support them when doing Kabaka’s work.

He explained that that the move has helped fight incompetency and corruption.
