Exclusively speaking to this website, James Kakooza Mutagubya, Uganda’s representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has confirmed his intentions to oust the feared Peninah Busingye commonly known as Maama Kisanja out of parliament come 2026.
In 2021, Maama Kisanja was voted on NRM ticket as a parliamentary representative for elderly persons in Buganda.
However, Kakooza insists that she has done nothing for the elderly apart from swimming in the taxpayers’ money and it is a high time they vote for another person.
“I’m 63 years old now and I qualify to contest for that slot and I have started mobilizing support on the ground and the results are promising. I will secure the NRM party ticket in the primaries and rally for support from the entire party in the general elections,” Kakooza said.
For a long time, Maama Kisanja has been a chief political mobilizer for President Museveni which has always created fear among her opponents.
She was even exposed before Justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s land probe on allegation of using president Museveni’s name to grab former auditor general’s land in Kira Municipality and was detained for hours.
Before declaring interest to contest against Busingye, Kakooza first thought of returning back to Kabula where he was defeated in 2021 by Enos Asiimwe.
He tried to stand against David Sserukenya in Makindye Ssabagabo but he realised that he will be defeated again and lose the opportunity of shining again on the national politics stage that is why he took a decision to go head to head with Maama Kisanja.
Kakooza was voted to the regional parliament for the first time in 2021 replacing Mathias Kasamba who died in the middle of his second term.
