Alex Kabiito one of the Chief National Unity Platform (NUP) coordinators in Lubaga Division has exclusively confirmed to this investigative website that the lifestyle of their fellow foot soldier Julius Katongole has shocked them and has attracted the attention of top party leaders who want him to be investigates to establish the source of millions of money he is splashing in the area.
Sources said that last week, Katongole was summoned at the party headquarters to answer questions related to the source of funds his friends are complaining about.
“Surprisingly, Katongole doesn’t have a known job that would have gotten him all that money he is using in early campaigns. He is facilitating radio and television political and entertainment talk shows to praise him on air that he is coming to contest for Lubaga South constituency as a Member of Parliament in the coming elections on the NUP ticket. Where is he getting these funds from?” a source questioned.
He added that he has also hired social media influencers especially on Facebook and tik tok to push his campaign beyond Uganda’s borders so as to attract financial support from the diaspora, a tactic which fallen Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya used to overwhelmingly get support and win the 2021 parliamentary seat defeating seasoned legislator Hajji Latif Ssebaggala Ssengendo.

The party leaders also want to know where he got the money he used to print his high standard candidate posters which he has spread through the entire constituency painting it red.
“In Kampala and neighbouring areas, in terms of posters which cover other aspirants, Katongole can only be compared to Kira Municipality’s Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda,” a source said.
He claimed that they suspect Katongole is receiving all that amount of money from Mathias Mpuuga’s newly launched Democratic Front because he is a close friend to senior journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala, a friend of Mpuuga.
Foot soldiers are suspecting that Mpuuga is using Katongole to infiltrate NUP’s foot soldiers system with the aim of building a spying unit within NUP leadership especially once he uses this money to secure a ticket.
Others are claiming that Katongole might have received the money from First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni’s funded Greenmen initiative which she is using to fight poverty among women in the ghettos of Kampala.
Greemen is coordinated by Musa Mbazira the Lubaga Division NRM strongman who shocked the public by winning the Division speakership seat even though NUP has the majority in the council.
He is currently fighting for NRM ticket to contest for a Member of Parliament seat.
In the 2021 general election, Katongole was preparing to contest for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) council to represent Lubaga Division but he was arrested before the nomination and charged with aggravated defilement.
However, after the elections, in 2022, he was discharged over lack of prosecution from the State.
Katongole accused his political opponents internally in NUP and other political parties of fabricating criminal charges against him to frustrate his efforts of contesting and defeating them in the said elections.
Katongole is contesting on the NUP ticket against the incumbent Aloysious Mukasa, Eugine Nassolo and others.
Efforts to get a comment from him were futile since he did not pick our calls by the time we published this story.
