Senior detectives from different investigation agencies in the country assigned to investigate the alleged corruption and money laundering against the flamboyant former speaker of parliament Annet Anita Among are sharply divided on exhibiting her expensive clothes, watches, shoes, jewelry recovered from her three homes as evidence to be used by the prosecution once a decision is given for her criminal trial to kick-off.

Last month, detectives under the supervision of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba raided Among homes in Nakasero, Kigo and in other parts of the country where a number of items including her newly acquired Rolls-Royce car and other luxurious cars, jewels, money, clothes were confiscated and marked as evidence accordingly.

Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda claimed that Among’s homes were turned upside down as detectives searched for evidence including removing ground tiles inside her houses, digging the compounds, opening safes searching for whatever she had hidden there.

Mwenda claimed that shockingly, the amount of money recovered from Among’s homes was not less than Shs1m and at her offices at parliament building.

However, Ono Bwino can exclusively report that as senior detectives are comparing notes on the recovered items, there is a sharp division among those with legal background protesting the move to exhibit clothes, shoes, jewels and watches as exhibits.

“Those are private personal things, not properties and cannot be used as exhibits. We shall lose the case on technical grounds,” a source quoted one of the detectives telling his colleagues in the meeting.

Other overzealous detectives insisted that exhibiting the said items was going to boast their case.

However, their colleagues warned them not to play to the public gallery but build their case carefully.

It was reported that in the recently private meeting at Nakasero State lodge, Museveni promised Among that he will brief her on the next course of action once the investigations against her are done.

Museveni’s statement resulted from the pleas Among made to him where she asked him to allow her to access her doctors abroad claiming the anti-corruption operation against her traumatised her a lot and her blood pressure went up.

Among was only allowed to access her personal doctors locally as security monitors her movements and the people interacting with her at her Nakasero home where she was placed under house arrest.

Among is accused of using the five years as deputy and speaker of parliament to abuse public office for personal enrichment by involving in corruption, money laundering and other crimes.

In 2024, Among and her husband Moses Magogo the president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) were sanctioned by United Kingdom, United States of America, European Union, United Arabs and their allies over corruption allegations.

She however strongly denied the allegations insisting that she uses her private businesses to accumulate the said wealth.
