The Executive Director of the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) Dr Lawrence Sserwambala has officially written to the top leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) confirming to them that without the presence of their leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), the signing of the final documents allowing their party to join the coalition of other political parties with representatives in the parliament, will not take place.

In the said letter, Dr Sserwambala informed NUP leaders that IPOD has declined to accept their proposal of recommending their acting party president and also the national deputy president in charge of Northern Uganda Dr Lina Zedriga to sign the said documents in the presence of other political party presidents on behalf of Bobi Wine so that NUP officially joins the coalition.

Dr Sserwambala insisted that NUP should confirm Bobi Wine’s presence to help them better organise their coming summit meeting where NUP and Gen Mugisha Muntu’s Alliance for National Transition (ANT) will officially join other political parties including the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

Dr Kizza Besigye’s People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) declined to apply to join IPOD.

Since the passing and signing of the IPOD Amendment bill in 2024, NUP has been missing out on getting their share because it has not officially signed the memorandum of understanding with other political parties which have representatives in parliament.

Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will mean that NUP will never use other forums to solve their political problems in the country apart from through IPOD dialogue which Bobi Wine is protesting.

Last week, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba through his X handle assured Bobi Wine that him and his army have interest in him that is why they will be arrested from wherever he is which scared a number of NUP supporters.

Bobi Wine and his family sneaked out of the country to United States of America after the 2026 general elections.

This was on the back of a raid on his Magere home where his wife Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi was insulted by military men.

Bobi Wine was expected to comeback in the country this month.

However, highly placed sources in NUP have revealed that he extended his return to unknown date, a move which angered a number of NUP leaders who are interested in getting money from IPOD.

Sources said that NUP urgently need IPOD money because they are going through a financial crisis which resulted from IPOD amendments and the 2026 general campaigns plus blocking of the foreign funding by government which dried their treasury.

Sources said that this is the only opportunity where President Museveni was going to physically meet Bobi Wine in one room since he joined active politics in 2017 and declared a political fight against his government.

Museveni has been accusing Bobi Wine of using his foreign influence to place his government in bad light.
