Ono Bwino can exclusively report that the the first thing that shocked incarcerated former Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago at Murchison Bay prison was how information concerning his arrest spread fast like a wild fire around the entire prison yet they don’t access social media and don’t have phones.

On Wednesday, Makindye Chief Magistrate Sarah Anne Basemera remanded Lukwago to prison until Monday when she will pronounce herself on his bail application after being charged with the offence of misprision of treason.

Highly placed sources at Luzira revealed to Ono Bwino that Lukwago is sleeping in A1 on Block B, a highly executive prison ward where very important inmates sleep.

After being convinced with defence lawyers led by Constitutional law giant Medard Lubega Sseggona who told court that their client’s health condition needed a specialised prison, the magistrate remanded him to Murchison Bay which houses the national referral hospital for prisoners.

Lukwago reached prison when other inmates were already back in their wards but information concerning his arrival was known by everyone because they had watched the news from their respective wards.

Early in the morning after the counting, lawyer Male Mabirizi who is also in the same prison on remand on charges related for annoying Chief Justice Dr Flavian Zeija and Court of Appeal judge Musa Ssekaana created a scene while struggling with inmates providing security on Block B who insisted on being the first to welcome Lukwago.

With open hands, Lukwago welcomed Mabirizi at his lavish ward. He first apologised to him for not visiting him since February 2026 when Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Wanyama who is also wife to New Vision Chief Executive Officer Don Wanyama remanded him.

“I told him that the reason I wanted to be the first to welcome him is because I was told that he was scared of me going to complain why he and other friends who were struggling for Dr Kizza Besigye’s freedom abandoned me in prison. He explained to me, and I welcomed him at our new home” Mabirizi told this reporter at prison on Thursday afternoon.

They further discussed his case and strategized on how to overcome the situation after learning that Lino Anguzu the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has a dangerous plan of keeping him in prison for some time.

Highly placed sources revealed to Ono Bwino that before the trial magistrate pronounces herself on his bail application, the DPP will present committal papers committing him to the High Court for trial.

“We are working on committal papers, Lukwago will be added on Samuel Makokha file before the High Court,” a source at DPP’s Offices said.

Early this year, Makokha was arrested at Entebbe Airport and charged with misprision after State claimed that he consealed information that opposition strongman Dr Kizza Besigye and his political assistant Haji Obed Kamulegeya Lutale were planning to assassinate President Museveni and overthrow his government.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who commanded the operation of kidnapping Lukwago said that he will not come out of prison now.

“Lukwago, has been craving (for) my attention for decades. He has it now. He is in prison and he will never come out,” he stated on his alleged X handle.

Sseggona said that as lawyers and his family, they are happy that Lukwago is in a known area where his children can go and visit him because some of them had refused to go to school demanding to first see their father after seeing humiliating photos of him on social media.
