Ono Bwino can exclusively report that preparations at City Hall are in high gear for the outgoing Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago to officially handover office.
According to highly placed sources at KCCA, Lukwago is expected to handover Office next week either on Monday or Tuesday to Hajat Sharif Buzeki the city Executive Director.
Sources said that Lukwago is the one who asked to handover the office to the leadership of the technical wing to help them prepare early for his successor Ssalongo Ronald Balimwezo of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Balimwezo who is currently spending much of his time engaging KCCA technical leaders at City Hall is expected to take oath in May after president Museveni and Members of Parliament.
Talks are still ongoing as a section of KCCA leaders are lobbying for Lukwago to be allowed to retire with the official Lord Mayor car or for the authority to buy for him a new one to use during retirement.
Lukwago who has been the city Lord Mayor since 2011 claimed that his defeat was fueled by mafia cartel who joined forces to fight him because he always frustrated their plans of grabbing public properties especially land.
He however warned that he is going to use his private life to fight for Rule of Law and good governance in the country through his law firm of Lukwago & Company Advocates.
