Maverick lawyer Male Mabirizi has confirmed to this website that he has withdrawn the instructions he gave to Uganda Law Society boss Isaac Ssemakadde and other lawyers to represent him in the ongoing criminal proceedings slapped on him by the State.
Mabirizi explained that the decision to withdraw instructions resulted from the sharp misunderstanding he developed with his lawyers who he claimed wanted to take control of the entire proceedings while he in the other hand insisted that they should follow his instructions.
“Ssemakadde and team only concentrated on how to have me released from jail on bail without looking at the bigger picture of judicial officers who abuse their powers and use their offices to settle their personal grievance.” Mabirizi explained.
Mabirizi added that during his first appearance before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Wanyama, he was compromised by Ssemakadde through his vice president Anthony Asiimwe who was leading his legal team to take a plea even though he was very sure that the magistrate wanted to use his criminal trial to settle a score against him.
He added that Ssemakadde also compromised him when he tried to force Kidasa to recuse herself from his case by advising him to first have a meeting with her in her chambers instead of in the open court. During the meeting, the magistrate assured him that he will not have any bias on him but Mabirizi claims that she revenged against him by basing on soft technicalities to deny him bail.
He noted that even though he highly respects Ssemakadde and his entire team, he needs to control his case because he is the one who understands the reason why he was imprisoned and what his tormentors want to achieve from his imprisonment.
Recently, Ono Bwino reported about a dossier Ssemakadde wrote to Mabirizi telling him that the only way him and Uganda Law Society lawyers can continue representing him is by allowing them to take full control of the case.
Ssemakadde also told Mabirizi to stop slowing down the court process by filing numerous court cases without their knowledge.
Ssemakadde and other lawyers were also not happy with Mabirizi’s hostility against Kidasa to the extent of asking her to recuse herself from his case citing biasness.
“I don’t want to be released because of compromise. Yes, I’m in prison but I get to know all meetings that are being held to keep me in prison, and my lawyers might also be compromised, so from now am going to represent himself,” Mabirizi said.
The development comes at a time when Buganda Road Magistrate Winnie Nankya has already set 15th of May 2026 as a date to start hearing a private criminal prosecution Mabirizi filed against Kidasa and ruthless prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka.
Mabirizi claims that the accused persons violated his rights when they forcefully arrested him inside the courtroom and read what he termed as fake charges which are similar to those which were declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional court.
He further wants court to declare that his human rights were violated when Kidasa insisted on presiding over her matter after asking her to recuse herself on grounds that he did not expect justice from her.
Kidasa is expected to pronounce herself on Mabirizi’s recusal application before determining whether she proceeds with hearing of his mandatory bail application given his trial has spent 60 days without kicking off.
Mabirizi’s troubles stemmed from a complaint made by Chief Justice Dr Flavian Zeija and Justice Ssekaana who accused him of using his social media platforms to spread malicious information against their personalities.
Mabirizi who was arrested in early February 2026 was first charged under Computer Misuse Act but the charges were dropped after the Constitutional Court declared them unconstitutional. He was charged a fresh with charges under Uganda Communication Commission Act.
