This investigative website can exclusively report that Alexandra Medical Centre bosses have also paraded a team of medical experts to do parallel investigations to establish the cause for Kalangala district woman Member of Parliament (MP) Helen Nakimuli’s death.

Over the weekend, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) the National Unity Platform (NUP) boss through his social media platforms broke the shocking news of Nakimuli’s death

Joel Ssenyonyi the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP) followed by narrating how the deceased drove herself to Alexandra Medical Centre along Kitante Road Close, Yusuf Lule Road, and through a phone conversation, she told him that she was going for a minor surgery.

According to Ssenyonyi, Nakimuli being the shadow information minister and the opposition spokesperson in parliament was coordinating opposition MPs for a meeting to comment on the controversial sovereignty bill which is before parliament for processing and her sudden death not only shocked him but a number of her close friends and family members.

Ono Bwino can exclusively report that Nakimuli’s death has created a lot of panic in political circles especially among members of NUP. This has forced the party leadership to pay more than Shs10m to a team of three top pathologists from Mulago hospital to carryout a postmortem on her body to guide their ongoing independent investigations into her death.

Highly placed NUP sources revealed that Bobi Wine directed the independent investigation to be carried out and assigned Joel Ssenyonyi and David Lewis Rubongoya the party Secretary General to supervise the said investigations and the duo has been frequently briefing him on the progress.

Ssenyonyi confirmed that Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is leading the investigations and according to sources, a team of pathologists led by Dr Moses Byaruhanga the Assistant Inspector General of Police who also doubles as the Director of Police Health Services has also done an independent postmortem on Nakimuli’s body in the presence of her family members and a friend as witnesses.

Highly placed sources at Mulago hospital told this reporter that as NUP leaders prepared to handover the body to A-Plus Funeral Service company, Alexandra hospital bosses have also paraded a team of medical experts to also be given permission to do a postmortem on Nakimuli.

He added that all the pieces cut from Nakimuli’s body were subjected to further investigation at Wandegeya based Government Analytical Laboratory and all parties in the ongoing investigations agreed to wait for official results from the government laboratory before they make any announcement resulting from the postmortem report.

Investigations established that the recent 2026 political campaigns which resulted Nakimuli’s re-election delayed her surgery operation after a female friend working at the Prime Minister’s Office recommended her to Alexandra Medical Centre

Investigation findings are collaborating with the statements of Rev. Fr. Christopher Walusimbi the father to the deceased who revealed that for a longtime, her daughter has been struggling with fibroids. Fr. Walusimbi disclosed that he suspects that they may have led to the death of his daughter.

Investigations further revealed that the deceased has also been using herbal medicine to treat the fibroids after one of the female friends in parliament assured her that the fibroids will be absolved as she goes through menstruation.

However, even though she was using herbal medicine, the pain kept increasing and arrangements were made for surgery operation where she was asked to pay Shs18m as her hospital bill for the entire operation according to sources close with the ongoing investigations.

These sources divulged that even though a team of experts was paraded for the operation, surprisingly, at the last hour, a senior specialist on the team that was was supposed to supervise the entire operation declined to appear after disagreeing with the hospital management on payment.

“The expert was asking for Shs3m and the hospital management was only offering Shs1m, because of his demand, he abandoned the duty and traveled to Nairobi where he also had another appointment,” a senior investigator allegedly told Ono Bwino.

He added that at first, the operation was successful, even though there were some difficulties during the operation because the fibroids had grown bigger and she needed a lot of blood which resulted into the operation taking more time than what they had originally planned.

According to sources, after the operation, Nakimuli was taken to a resting room, but after thirty minutes, doctors went back to check on her and that’s when they established that she was over bleeding and the wounds had busted.

Doctors took almost a full hour struggling to pump her heart to respond until they discovered that she was dead.

Because they feared to break the news of her death to the anxiously waiting family members, they decided to hatch a plan of writing a letter referring her to Mulago hospital.

On their way to Mulago hospital, one of the medics in the ambulance was given instructions to write a note below the referral letter that the patient had died on the way to the hospital.

This is where the confusion started from concerning the first reports indicating that Nakimuli died from Mulago National Referral hospital which the hospital managemental refuted in a public statement.

This reporter has learnt that the hospital directors directors including a celebrated Kampala based gynaecologist are struggling to shield the hospital’s name because the incident happened after they had secured corporate trust as one of the medical centres which has experts in dealing with women and children.

The medical facility is a premium outpatient specialty in obstetrics, gynaecology, dental, and general medicine, with services including ultrasound, a laboratory, and day-case surgery.
