In a shocking development, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Lino Anguzu has demoted and transferred controversial Kanyanya Chief State Attorney Sharon Sarah Nambuya to Luzira Magistrate’s Court.
Highly placed sources at the DPP’s offices intimated to Ono Bwino that Nambuya’s transfer resulted from a number of complaints from the public including one from the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi and other practicing private lawyers who accuse her of being arrogant and disrespectful.
Sources said that deploying Nambuya at a Grade One Magistrate’s Court yet she was a Chief State Attorney at Kanyanya Chief Magistrate Court is a demotion.
Nambuya is remembered for accusing lawyer Patrick Osude of being unprofessional when he accused him of raiding her office with the plan of seducing female young lawyers working under her supervision.
The bitter exchange resulted from Osude’s submissions that the reason why he delayed to receive the disclosure to properly defend his client who was accused of fraudulently obtaining moneys from a British citizen was because of Nambuya who was always absent from her office.
Nambuya lost her temper and went personal with Osude.
She insisted that she reaches her office early in the morning and leaves late in the evening after executing all her official duties.
She added that while in her office, she always hears men sweet-talking the young girls working at her office and Osude might be one of them.
She insisted that Osude’s statement was very dangerous to her career because her bosses might think that she is always absent from office and hence not working.
The situation was saved by the presiding magistrate Damalie Agumasiimwe.
Nambuya is remembered for always forcing lawyers to vacate their seats and relegating them to sit in the audience even when they come earlier than her. She always boasts with her junior Bruce Twongirwe that government lawyers are the ones who have to first get where to sit before others because they are the bosses in court.
In the case where National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders and supporters were charged with offences related to unlawful drilling, Nambuya shocked fellow lawyers when she asked them to present their practicing licenses before she proceeds appearing with them.
Lawyers Paul Kenneth Kakande, Samuel Muyizzi, Ssenyonyi and Male Mabirizi accuse Nambuya of being brutal and disrespectful to fellow learned colleagues.
But some Court users especially complainants have always been happy with her because she has been brutal against the accused persons and always fights corruption.
“If you have any issue with the way your matter is being handled, please come to my office, it is open. I’m the Chief State Attorney here, which means I’m the boss of all these lawyers. But when you come with intention of bribing me, you will be arrested because I have soldiers at my offices,” she one time said.
