Police at Jinja Road have arrested and detained city pastor Sedrick Mugisha in a Shs12bn gold scum

According to security sources, the flamboyant pastor who ministers at one of the powerful Redeemed Pentecostal churches in Namasuba along Entebbe Road has been on run for weeks until he was arrested at Naguru a leafy Kampala city suburb.

Sources said that Chinese and Russian investors filed a complaint against the pastor claiming that he defrauded them after convincing them that he was going to sell them high quality gold.

Sources said that in October, Mugisha with his business associates travelled to Dubai to seal the deal and to prove that they were genuine gold dealer, he showed them photos of him with top military and government officials.

After agreeing on the quality and amount of money to be paid, he insisted that they should first deposit money to his bank account before handing over the gold to them after taking it to Dubai for a quality test.

He was supposed to handover the gold to the investors in October, but after withdrawing the money, he disconnected all his communication with them which forced them to fly to Kampala to file a complaint against him.

Sources said that after learning that a complaint had been filed against him, he again contacted them and assured them that he was going to deliver their gold in November.

He blasted them for not being patient. However, security used his last communication and photos the investors presented to trail him until he was arrested.

Sources said that he was charged with a number of criminal offences including obtaining money by false pretence and fraud. By press time, he was still detained at Jinja road police

Luke Oweyisigyire the Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson when contacted, said that he has not yet been briefed fully about Mugisha’s arrest and detention.

Mugisha has joined a long list of Pentecostal pastors who faced criminal cases related to fraud, getting money by false prentice and snatching other people’s wives. To elude arrest and prosecution, some have fled the country.
