Maverick state minister in charge of lands in the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Dr Sam Mayanja has narrated how he survived an assassination attempt after a man faked Museveni’s voice, infiltrated his security and started guiding his decisions on land.
Mayanja revealed in early 2025, as he was driving to his office along parliamentary avenue, he received a phone call and upon responding to it, the man introduced himself as President Museveni and was speaking in his real voice. He told him that he had received intelligence reports that his life was in danger and he has decided to send him one of his well trusted people to supervise his security a move which he welcomed.
The next day, a man reported at his office and he introduced himself to him and to his security team. A special desk was placed near the office of the minister to supervise his security by vetting persons the minister meets and vet all documents sent to him before they reach the minister’s desk .
When he was going on upcountry duties, the said man was supposed to travel in the minister’s car and his advance team was reporting directly to him to guide them. It was not until other security team members started becoming suspicious of his decisions and actions.
“When I was executing a presidential directive on Sango Bay land, my other security team approached him after I had addressed a gathering who were protesting the government’s wish of develop the land contesting ownership. They told me that they were suspicious of the man’s behaviour. They wondered how can a trained security officer addresses the public like a politician and incite them,” Mayanja said.
He added that as he was briefing the president on how he was executing his directive, he asked him about the said man and he denied having talked to him about his security or assigning him to supervises his security.
With immediate effect, he sent his team who arrested the man from his special desk.
Mayanja insisted that the said man was deployed by mafias who wanted to influence his decision on land matters especially the land at Sango Bay.
He divulged that they even reported him to his supervisor the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja that he is mismanaging the matter.
He said that the minister travelled to the ground and established that he had done nothing wrong. The President also enforced his team with another expert and boasted that he has executed the directive very well and the land is ready for use
Mayanja assured those people who were using the government land that they will be compensated and the money is already available because the investor urgently wanted to start the palm oil project on the said land.
