As Speaker of Parliament and also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National vice chairperson in charge of women Annet Anita Among is fighting to be declared unopposed by Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama’s Electoral Commission for the position of Bukedea district women Member of Parliament, this website has established that a number of ministers in President Museveni’s government are banking on their gains in the last term to bounce back.
During the NRM MP primaries, Among went through unopposed after the party’s electoral commission chairperson Dr Fredrick Tanga Odoi dismissed Hallen Odeke Okol from the race even though she tried to seek the attention of the party national chairperson President Museveni for help claiming that Tanga was working on the influence and compromise of Among.
In 2021, fallen High Court judge Wilson Musalu Musene issued a Court Order stopping the Electoral Commission from nominating Adeke on grounds that she lacked the required education qualification and was not a registered voter in Bukedea district.
Fast forward in 2025, Zipporah Akol a concerned voter in Bukedea has petitioned the Civil Division of the High Court in Kampala seeking for a Court order stopping Among’s competitors who include Odeke, National Unity Platform’s Marion Mercy Alupo and Suzan Norm Otai from being nominated as candidates in the coming parliamentary elections.
This website has established that it’s not only Among who wants to stand unopposed, other top government officials like the former speaker of parliament and also the current first Deputy Prime Minister and also minister in charge of East African Community Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is also fighting to stand unopposed.
This website has landed on a group of NRM cadres from Busoga who recently founded a social media platform dedicated to making sure that Kadaga bounces back as Kamuli district Woman Member of Parliament unopposed in 2026.
Their view is that Kadaga has done so much for Uganda, Busoga as a region and more so Kamuli and should not be challenged.
They have been organising meetings to strategize on how best to achieve their objective as they carry on with their campaign.
This website has also established that Lands, Housing and Urban Development senior minister Judith Nabakooba is fighting tooth and nail to bounce back as Mityana district woman MP and she is very sure that any defeat in the coming election will end all her hopes of bouncing back in Museveni’s cabinet.
In 2021, NUP’s Joyce Bagala defeated Nabakooba but Museveni was advised that she had a political future and should be retained in his cabinet after.
The President was also informed that Nabakooba had done quite well as a minister and hundreds of citizens flock her Ministry daily to have their land grievances and injustices attended to.
Another NRM bigwig fighting to stand unopposed is Milly Babalanda who has also effectively used the docket of being Minister for Presidency to empower hundreds of sons and daughters of Busoga into key government positions.
She has helped many to become Resident City Commissioners, Resident District Commissioners and their Deputy and Assistant and they continue to be gainfully employed.
She also brings Busoga issues directly to the President for rectification and chances are high that she will win Budiope West MP slot especially because of her character of being a down to earth person.
In Kakumiro District, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has done very well for the Museveni government especially in Bunyoro region where she is the Woman MP.
Besides the many children whose education she has sponsored and connected to job opportunities, Nabbanja has also used the Premier position to raise the profile of Kakumiro district.
In Kampala, Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, has improved on the City road infrastructure by overseeing the construction of several roads in the metropolitan area, among them; Entebbe Municipality, the Kitooro-Kiwafu-Nakiwogo road, Ben Kiwanuka road upgrade, Kira road, Rashid Kamis road, and Nsambya Estate road in Kampala, Kungu-Bivanju road Kira municipality, Mbogo-Cyprian roads, Albert cook -cathedral rise road in Mukono Municipality, Bukasa -Sentema road, Kakiri and the Kisozi -Kitemu road in Wakiso District.
She has united traders and quelled several impeding demonstrations by Kampala City Traders (KACITA) among others.
She has united the Muslim community in Kampala by empowering Islamic women to take part in social economic transformation through obtaining loans in Muslim Banks.
Kabanda has united the urban women in Kawempe Division, Kampala Central, Kira municipality, Nakawa Division by making sure that they are employed as cleaners within KCCA, and most of them benefitting on PDM funds.
In Kyotera, Haruna Kasolo had effectively served as area MP for 10 years up to 2021 when voters ousted him in favour of Democratic Party’s Paul Mpalanyi who recently joined NUP
In absence of a better alternative, the people of Kyotera are mooting a move to vote back Kasolo since he has favour of both Museveni and the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) who is also the national chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda(PLU) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba
In Lira City, the Woman MP there who also doubles as the Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero too has higher chances of returning back to parliament even though she is facing strong competition from fellow minister Betty Amongi Akena
Lira City voters unanimous agree that Aceng (aka the Sun of the People) has done a good job in her first four years. She also helped towards renovation of Bishop’s residence at Lira Catholic Diocese by contributing Shs15m; distributed mosquito nets to mothers union members during their retreat at Amuca parish and delivered 400 repainted iron sheets for the Truth Foundation ministries closely working with ex-Zombo Woman MP/minister Grace Freedom Kwiyicwiny.
Her other outputs include financially supporting the priests’ ordination function at Lira Cathedral in August 2022, financially supporting organisers of the Lango Revival prayers 2024; donating 136 bags of cement for St. Peter’s lreda and supporting the construction of St. Augustine Church Barogole with Shs6m.
Being a medical person and line Minister, Aceng has done work in the health field more than anywhere else for her Lira City voters. She mobilised for delivery and installation of 40 oxygen cylinders for Lira RRH at the time there was scarcity everywhere as a result of COVID.
Because of her, Lira RRH, for which she was director before the president made her Director General of health services in July 2011 now has a satellite laboratory, an oxygen plant, an ambulance dispatch point, CT scan facilities and a dialysis machine all because of her effective lobbying both as minister and area MP.
Also, in place is new state of art infrastructure related to out patient’s department, casualty wing and the ENT wing.
These were all funded by the Government of Uganda and JICA at the instigation of Aceng.
She has also supported peri-urban farming among farmers in Iwal ward where hoes and hybrid maize seeds have been donated through Aceng’s constituency office.
Yet that isn’t all. Using her twin position of MP and Minister, Aceng also lobbied to have NWSC reconnect water supply to Lira Main market after 10 years of disconnection following huge arrears that were accumulated during the old days of Lira Municipal Council.
She also obtained permission from the Water Ministry which enabled her to fund the digging up of 12 new boreholes to mitigate the water crisis Lira City residents had endured for years. Residents in not less than 12 cells of Lira City benefited. Several other preexisting boreholes required rehabilitation, which Aceng fixed.
The driving permits-issuance office that was established in Lira City to serve motorists from the entire Lango sub region resulted from direct lobbying by Aceng who spoke to and convinced the Works & Transport Ministry in Kampala to open it up to save motorists the burden and cost of having to travel to Kampala for the same.
Aceng also worked with partners like Nile Agro Industries Ltd and MMP Paja Foundation to deliver the boreholes’ deal besides the 2 solid waste management trucks; one for Lira City and another for Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Many of these are things she had promised she would do while campaigning for the MP seat in 2021-and others not.
Besides mobilising her voters to vacate up to 700 acres of land at Aler Farm to pave way for preparatory work preceding the establishment of Lira Industrial Park, Dr. Aceng has been rallying local business community members to remain united on top of luring investors to her city.
Examples of these hard-to-get investors include Universal Granite & Marble factory which is located in Anyalo Cell in Barapwo ward in West Division. She also famously paid the 6 months office rent for Lira Garments Designers Cooperative Society whose more than 300 members have been able to calm down and even train other City residents to replicate the skilling equation.
