Justice Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza has stopped Anthony Asiimwe the vice president of the Uganda Law Society from attending meetings of the Uganda Law Council.
Asiimwe was shocked when Justice Mulyagonja the chairperson of the Uganda Law Council told him that he cannot attend their meetings even though he tried to explain that he was in attendance as the president of the Uganda Law Society because his boss Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde is out of the country.
He emphasised that Ssemakadde assigned him to execute his official duties in his absence including attending the Uganda law council meetings on behalf of the Uganda Law Society.
However, Justice Mulyagonja overruled him explaining that the law only allows the president to attend the meetings not his vice president.
Leaders at the Uganda Law Society are still studying the decision before taking a decision of challenging it in courts of law.
They insist that it was the president who assigned his vice to execute his official duties in his absence.
Justice Mulyagonja assured Asiimwe that Uganda Law Society is well represented in the Law Council by Baker Ssekanjako who was voted overwhelmingly by lawyers in their general assembly to represent their interest in the council.
The development comes days after instructions were issued to Interpol to reinstate Ssemakadde’s identity on the list of the most wanted person needed to answer to criminal charges and the orders has been already executed.
The instructions to Interpol resulted from Justice Gadenya Walimbwa’s decision of not extending the orders issued when lifting the international warrant of arrest issued against Ssemakadde by Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court.
Justice Mulyagonja stayed the criminal prosecutions against Ssemakadde at Buganda Road Court pending his final decision on a concern raised by Ssemakadde over the way the trial was handled.
However, before the judgement was delivered, Ssemakadde asked the presiding judge to recuse himself from his appeal citing biasness against him.
Ssemakadde further fired his lawyers who were handling the matter citing incompetence even though they secured for him a temporary injunction.
According to Court records, the new lawyers haven’t yet filed the submissions in the matter as directed.
This website has established from intelligence circles that Ssemakadde is processing asylum papers to become a refugee in German to survive what he branded as political persecution because of exposing top corrupt government officials and dictatorship.
Intelligence claims that the Germany government is delaying the process of issuing asylum papers and after the expiration of his visitor’s visa, he will jet back to push his papers.
Ssemakadde’s troubles were initiated by two lawyers Tonny Tumukunde and Joshua Byamazima who instituted private criminal proceeding against their professional umbrella body ULS accusing him as president of the body of making derogatory and scandalous remarks against the person of Justice Jane Frances Abodo the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) when he was addressing supporters and leaders of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) a political pressure group at their offices in Nakasero a Kampala Suburbs.
Byamazima and Tumukunde who publicly didn’t support Ssemakadde during the ULS elections informed Kayizzi that the accused person intentionally refused to respect his orders insisting that they served him and his lawyers who received the court documents.
In another development, a team of lawyers led by Constitutional law giant Peter Walubiri are fighting in the Court of Appeal to overturn Justice Musa Ssekaana’s decision of slapping their client with a two years imprisonment sentence which resulted from the contempt of court charges.
