In the wee hours of Thursday, intelligence landed on an intelligence tip that Gideon Kirumira and Brenda Kirumira, the son and daughter to controversial city businessman Godfrey Kirumira the Namibian ambassador to Uganda had deployed deadly criminal gangs to frustrate His Worship Samuel Kagoda Ntende the deputy registrar in charge of the Land Division of the High Court Kampala from executing his planned locus visit on the contested property at Buziga Mulamula road in Makindye Division Kampala city.

The registrar decided to have a locus visit after businessman Dan Meshack Okwera petitioned him through his lawyers led by Francis Kabali Ssebowa with an application of staying the earlier order issued against him allowing late Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige (BMK) family members to access the property which they claim they are possessing fraudulently.

BMK family lawyers led by George Muhangi protested the application insisting with evidence that the order which Okwera’s lawyers wanted to stay had already been executed and the matter was already overtaken by events and that his clients were already in possession of the property on Block 273 plot 46.

Muhangi submitted that the order was executed in the presence of the area local leadership and security in command of Jane Muhindo the Kampala City Resident City Commissioner.

However, the registrar insisted on first having a look at the situation on the contested property before determining the application before him.

Before the order was executed, Muhangi submitted that Muhindo together with other stakeholders held a private meeting with Kirumira’s children who claim to have bought the contested property from Okwera who also bought it from Yako bank.

He added that at first, they disagreed as Kirumira’s children insisting that they bought both properties on plot 44 and 46 as a single plot not two as BMK family members claim.

Muhindo summoned government land surveyors and directed both parties to bring their private surveyors to be present as the boundaries are open to establish the truth.

He added that all surveyors agreed that there are two plots and Okwera only bought one plot. The demarcations were made on the land and BMK’s family were allowed to access the property in a tense environment as gangs threw stones to police and other leaders.

A number of them were arrested and taken to Katwe police station.

However, according to BMK family members who are staying on the contested property, on Wednesday night, they were attacked by criminal gangs who were armed with machetes and other weapons which forced them to vacate the property to save their lives after a number of them were injured.

They reported the attack to police.

They allege the gangs took possession of the building and received orders from their commanders, military police officers from Makindye barracks raided the building and a fight ensued between the army and the gangs.

The gangs were overpowered and arrested.

According to security, the gangs were found with deadly weapons including man made bombs which were made from petrol and other chemicals.

The suspects were taken to Katwe police station as investigations into the matter is ongoing.

The registrar promise to deliver his ruling before the end of May 2025

Kirumira was a close friend to BMK and both were members of the Bagagga Kwagalana association group.

However, BMK’s children accuse Kirumira family of fraudulently targeting their family properties even though Kirumira’s children insist that they also bought the said properties rightful from the owner.
