Buganda Royal Family members are pleading with president Museveni for medical assistance after a strange disease attacked the young sister of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

Highly placed sources in the royal family revealed to this website that since the beginning of this year, princess Diana Mugale Teyegala has been bedridden at his Kawuka home in Wakiso district where doctors are treating her.

Sources said that doctors at Lubaga hospital advised the family to fly her abroad for further treatment insisting that the local hospitals lack the expertise to treat the disease which she is suffering from.

“We are very scared because the disease which Diana is suffering from shows the same signs that the Kabaka had before he was taken abroad for further medication. Her body colour has changed, she feels difficulty in breathing and eating and she is slimming day by day. We decided not to move her from her bed and doctors found her there to give her treatment because she was feeling a lot of pain,” a source said.

She added that the treatment is very expensive and they have used all the money they have but the patient’s situation is not changing but is only getting bad. Some of the family members have advised them to take her to traditional healers claiming that she was bewitched.

“Doctors advised us not to take those peoples’ advice explaining that even the Kabaka was not taken to the shrine for treatment but was taken abroad. They advised us to look for almost Shs200m to take her abroad but we don’t have that amount of money,” one of the members of the royal family said.

She added that they are trying to reach out to President Museveni but access is still very difficult.

When asked why they didn’t reach out to Kabaka Mutebi, she explained that it is very difficult to reach Kabaka, noting that the phone number which they were using to reach him was blocked.

“We don’t have properties to sell to save our sister, all the properties of our father Sir Edward Mutesa are registered in Mutesa Foundation Limited and only Kabaka Mutebi, Prince David Kintu Wasajja, princes Agness Nabaloga, Princes Sarah Kagere are the only ones benefiting from the estate and many of us were left behind,” a Buganda prince told this website.

He added that they don’t pick the money from President Museveni’s government which is allocated to the former President of Uganda Muteesa even though he was the first President of Uganda.

When contacted, Owekitiibwa Israel Kitooke Kazibwe the Kingdom spokesperson and also the minister in charge of mobilization explained that the Kingdom administration has not yet got information that Princess Teyegala is very sick. He advised the royal family members handling her to use the known avenues to get help.

“Many times, when members of royal family members have problems, they don’t come to us commoners, they go to Prince Wasajja, you know those people are very special in our Kingdom and they should be treated with care,” Kitooke said.

However, the royals insist that they are suffering and being treated like commoners.

They gave the example of prince Micheal Ndawula who is also bedridden in Gomba district and others who died abroad and their bodies were buried there because they did not have the money to return the body back home.
