Media personality Brian Mulondo recently on his morning radio program told off stinky artists, King Saha in particular, to step up on their personal hygiene game. Mulondo asked the musicians to use chewing gum before going to perform at corporate events.

“These musicians stink! You might think they don’t shower. Some of them drink so much, they even come to our interviews drunk and stinky, there are those who don’t shower” Brian said

Musician Bebe Cool pinned King Saha and Gravity Omutujju as musicians who need to bathe more and wear some deodorant.

Motor mouthed blogger Isma Olaxess aka Jajja Iculi also listed artistes; Gravity Omutujju, John Blaq, Young Mulo, Jamal Waswa, Lil Pazzo, Alien Skin, Liam Voice and Ronald Alimpa as those that have bad breath. Other sources say good life’s Weasel also has a foul smell.

It’s smelly everywhere

Ugandan celebrities disagree with the way society has pinned poor hygiene on the music Industry. They say bad breath, smelly armpits and shabbiness are everywhere. They also argue that the medium of communication used to address the matter is inappropriate.

Speaking Top Secrets, Musician Bebe Cool called out the Ministry of Health and the media to sensitize the society on the benefits of good hygiene from the grassroots.

“The issue is not for musicians alone, it is for the Ministry of Health, it is for schools and the media.

We should all join Brian Mulondo to fight the issue of drug abuse, not individuals. Media is the most important vehicle between communities and developments so they should pass the right information.

Songstress Juliana Kanyomozi said that poor hygiene is a general problem so it should not be labeled on musicians alone. “All the issues attached to the industry are happening across the globe. Bad odour is affecting many people and the media is not the right medium to use to address the issue,” she said

A close friend to musician Liam voice who prefers anonymity advised that the artist’s name be scrapped off Jajja Iculi’s list because the singer takes good care of himself.

Renowned music critic Eddie Ssendi adds his voice on the matter and addresses it as a major problem for young people of this generation.

“I have interacted with musicians, presenters, journalists, market vendors, business men and a lot of our people in this generation have a personal hygiene problem so I don’t want to narrow it down to musicians, I instead want to narrow it down to everybody below the age of 30.

I want them to check themselves and learn how to be clean. The call should be for young people to learn to clean themselves not musicians because a lot of people, including media personnel, builders, and health workers are affected,” he said.
