This website can exclusively report that the Chief Justice Owiny Dollo has started clearing his desk as he prepares for retirement in January 2026
President Museveni appointed Dollo as the Chief Justice in 2020 replacing law giant Justice Bart Katurebe.
After five years as head of the judiciary, Dollo has clocked retirement age of 70 years and it is not clear whether if a presidential election petition is filed resulting from the ongoing presidential elections, Justice Dollo will preside over the petition as head of the panel as it was in 2021 when National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu(Bobi Wine) challenged Museveni’s victory.
Highly placed Supreme Court sources said that Justice professor Lilian Tibatemwa the Supreme Court administrator and Supreme Court registrar are no longer placing Justice Dollo on panels to preside over appeals.
Sources said that Justice Dollo who tried to extend the retirement age of the judges from 70 years arguing that it was wasteful for judges to retire at that age when they are still energetic and with huge experience on how to deliver justice is currently spending much of his time writing judgements and finishing other administrative work.
