Activities for Rule of Law and good Governance are divided and scared after learning that very soon investigative political and human rights journalist Raymond Mujuni is going to be given a juicy job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A celebrated political activity last week confirmed to fellow activities that Mujuni himself assured him that he is in the last stages of joining president Museveni’s government but he is scared of how people are going to take it especially the security detail the new job is going to come with.
Recently when the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba declared a war on the German ambassador in Uganda Matthias Schauer, Mujuni told his friends at KM radio that top officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are draining his phone battery with calls asking him to help them handle the diplomatic scandal.
Mujuni is one of the respected knowledgeable and very connected journalists. He recently graduated with twin degrees in Governance and International Relations and has completed a Masters Degree at The University of Oxford in United Kingdom where he specialised in researching on economic diplomacy of Sub-Saharan African states.
He is a close friend to UPDF land forces commander Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga and he is the one who connects him to Gen Muhoozi who the activists claim to have sponsored his further education abroad.
He is also a friend to many ambassadors especially the ones from; United States of America, Netherlands and Sweden and has helped many activists to secure funds to run their activism especially political activism and it is the reason they are very scared and alleging that he has betrayed them.
Because of his knowledge and expertise in public relations and communication, he was the first person that National Unity Platform (NUP) principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) wanted to appoint as his party spokesperson but citing personal issues, Mujuni declined to take the job and recommend his comrade Joel Ssenyonyi whom they worked together at NTV to take over the job.
Mujuni together with fellow celebrated investigative journalist Solomon Sserwanja established the African Institute for Investigative Journalism, one of the leading online media platforms in the country and they always organise trainings for journalists on how to properly investigate serious stories to expose criminality.
Because of Mujuni’s connections, on several occasions, he has saved Sserwanja from being arrested by security operatives who have constantly accussed him of being a foreign spy and getting billions of shillings to sabotage Museveni’s government.
This website also understands that currently, Sserwanja and Mujuni are not on good talking terms and in one of their meeting, a celebrated activist advised his colleagues to be careful with Mujuni.
“He has also gone, he has decided to join them officially like Crispin Kaheru did when he was given a job in Uganda Human Rights Commission, a car and security detail. This is the same thing that is going to be done to Mujuni, so be careful with him,” one activist told his friends.
However, others were happy with the development explaining that allowing people like Mujuni to get close to power will help them to compromise the system and advise them on how to survive State targets.
