Ono Bwino has learnt that the newly elected Kampala city Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga is set to use the special Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) council meeting summoned by its speaker John Marry Ssebuufu to announce his deputy.
Balimwezo is supposed to choose his deputy from the councilors and according to sources, the sharp competition is between Dr Shamim Nambassa the woman councilor for Kawempe South and senior councilor Faridah Nakabugo the woman council for Lubaga South.
After learning that Balimwezo has shared the credentials that his deputy should have with the party leadership including his principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), both Nakabugo and Nambassa through their henchmen and handlers are lobbying to be recommended for the job
Senior councilors especially those with primary and secondary education documents are sharply lobbying for Nakabugo because they are scared Nambassa’s fluent English fluent.
Balimwezo recently revealed to his confidants that his preferred candidate for the position of the deputy mayor is from Nakawa division but he cannot appoint him since the council speaker and deputy also come from the same division.
He noted that he wanted a deputy who will fit into his shoes when he is not present especially in the first days of his term because he plans to travel abroad for further medication.
Sources said that Balimwezo is surviving on pain killers and since the end of the January 2026 campaigns, he has been experiencing a lot of pain in his leg.
Ono Bwino recently reported that his family and friends have been convening at his Mutungo hill home to pray for him and also cast away the demons which are allegedly threatening his life.
After swearing-in as the new Kampala city Lord Mayor, Balimwezo declined to use the official chair which his predecessor Erias Lukwago has been using and the process of getting for him a new one is underway.
So, with such challenges, Balimwezo needs an excellent deputy and sources allege that even though Nakabugo is senior, she has a hot temper which leads her into creating a number of enemies.
Nambassa is fluent in English and tested leader because she is a former guild president at Makerere university but she lacks experience on how to overcome city hall politics.
The benefits which the deputy Lord Mayor receives include a car, a driver, Secretary, personal assistant and a monthly salary of not less than Shs15m.
