Justice Stephen Mubiru of the High Court has directed Jie County Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Abrahams Lokii to pay Indian money lender Amint Jain Shs335m with 24% interest since 2014.

According to court documents, both parties entered a money lending deal on 22nd September, 2012 where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) legislator borrowed Shs265m upon agreeing that it will be repaid within a period of nine months with 2% interest per month.

He used his motor vehicle Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter Registration Number UAP 540 Z as his security but he failed to honour the agreement and he sent two bounced cheques to the money lender.

It is on these grounds that the indian moneylender pleaded to court to force the legislator to pay him Shs335m with interest and costs for the case.

In his defence, the legislator denied the allegations insisting that he never borrowed any money from the money lender and the contract he was relying upon was created by the money lender himself.

In his ruling, the judge noted that the money lender has proved to court that there was a transaction made by the two parties and establishing that the legislator having wrongfully kept the money lender’s money for a long time, his payments should attract interest.

“The plaintiff has been engaged in litigation with the defendant since the year 2014 and therefore ought to be awarded general damages for that inconvenience, and the costs of the suit,” the judge stated.
